For a 5 hour reception, we are paying $1200. We selected a GREAT and very thorough DJ - but by far not the most expensive one. There are cheaper options (like The Pros or smaller, less experienced DJ's) that would be about $800 - but a DJ is one of those things that you really don't want to skimp on. There are also DJ's (MyDeejay.com) that are VERY highly rated but preetty expensive (like $1400 or so).
Our DJ gave us this whole planning packet and really works with all of our vendors on the day of - it's almost like a full-time wedding coordinator! He makes sure all of the timing is on-target and all the music is synched with special events. Very thorough individual.

Generally between $1000 - $1500. Music is super important to me so we're paying in that range.
I don't know if I got the "friend" hookup...but I got a professional DJ for $600 in DC...I should preface by saying we've been friends for a long time and i've known him since he started out (about 12 years ago)...but before I booked him, I looked around and saw other prices around the 600-800 dollar range...

Good morning all,
I posted this in the regular board so now posting in the DC board.
I am starting to look for a DJ and was just wondering what can I reasonably expect to pay for one in the DC area. And what kind of questions should I be asking, etc?
Thanks!
