That’s horrible.  I know the wedding can’t be done over, but I would take the DJ to small claims court.

@irishphoenix:  Most contracts that I’ve seen have a clause that says if the DJ’s sick he will send a replacement.  Your DJ may just use that as a cop out — but that’s NOT ok that he’s not responding and you SHOULD want your money back.  That’s the least he could do.

Make sure to review him everywhere!!  I’m sorry this happened to you 🙁

I would keep contacting him until he gives you a refund. If he is in breech of your contract he should return all the money, what a shitty thing to do!

If he did not give you notice (as it says per the contract), you can take him to small claims court for breach of contract.

That’s horrible!!! I would have been so mad at the wedding that I’d be red the whole time.

If he’s affiliated with the better business bureau, you can also complain there. That would show up in his review.

That’s just so bad that I know court fees can be high, but really think he shouldn’t get away with it.

Yep.  Take him to court.  Because then, in your reviews, you can mention that you took him to court for his unprofessional behavior and won.

Actually, I’m not sure about the legality of that (I’m not a lawyer).  But I do know that word tends to get around if we find out that so-and-so went to court for breaking their business contract.

@irishphoenix:  shame him on the internet, leave bad reviews anywhere you can. That’s what I would do. I’m sorry for what he did, I’d be so pissed if that happened to me.

@irishphoenix:  oh yeah weddingwire is notorious for taking down negative reviews. get him on yelp and on here, and then yes, DO take him to court. because if you dont, he just gets away with it.

UGH.  How annoying!  I would definitely be leaving appropriate reviews/feedback.

I think it’s great advice to ask if your DJ will be the only one DJ’ing.  We also paid a lot of money for our DJ because he was reputed to be the best.  He told us that he’d be bringing an assistant along but we didn’t think anything of it.  Turns out he was training a new DJ, and the guy was not very good.  I was pissed that we had spent so much money for subpar entertainment.  It was one of our splurges – I had to really convince DH to go with him because good dancing was so important to me, and I think we would have been just fine with the other DJ we interviewed, who charged $600 less.

I feel your pain!!
