We'll have about 60 people and we hired a DJ. I didn't want to have to worry about the music that day, just dance and enjoy! Also, it's nice to have an MC if you want your bridal party entrance, special dances, cake cutting etc. announced.
I'll probably have 30-40 people and I got a DJ! Go for it!
Yes, I would say go for it and negotiate well! DJ's help make the party. A friend of mine had an ipod wedding and it wasn't that great. However, another friend had a good DJ and it was on one of the best receptions I've been to.
If you can afford it and it's what you want, do it. You don't want to have to deal with technical issues yourself, and a DJ can keep the pace of the wedding going by emceeing. Not a bad decision at all!

FI and I are thinking about having a small wedding of 40-50 people. Would it still be worth it to get a real DJ (versus IPOD DJ) for this size group? I do love to dance and that would be the main entertainment at our reception.
