I’ve just booked a DJ to play for the night at our wedding (11th dec) The hotel recommended this particular DJ. He will play from 9-1.30, do you think this is OK instead of getting a band too, it’s just it’s a HUGE saving in money and as you all know everything adds up! I can give him a playlist for the whole night and people can of course ask for requests. He has music for the young and old too! Have any of you ladies done the same or have any of your friends just had a DJ???

I think this is completely ok to do, and there are just some songs that bands can’t reproduce. All the weddings I’ve been to recently have had DJ’s and they’ve been really great. GL!

There’s nothing like a live band at a wedding, especially if they’re a really good one. But they are such budget breakers. The band we wanted was $8,000 which we found out was pretty average when there’s multiple band members and they’d be playing for 5 hours.
We spent $1,500 on a DJ and it was absolutely fine. We did the same thing you’re suggesting, gave him a list of songs and a "Do Not Play List", and they did a great job in narrating the evening well.
Most weddings I’ve been to only have a DJ. Only the big budget weddings have offered a live band.

I’m only spending $400 on my DJ (to play for 4 hours). I think it’s perfectly fine to have a DJ. Most of the weddings I’ve been to have had DJs.
