So, let me start off by saying that our venue is on the 10th floor of a building and it is a somewhat long and narrow room. We are on the higher end of their capacity so it will already be somewhat tight.
I emailed the DJ today to ask if he was going to need a table set up, and he says “I will need two 8 foot tables”. Excuse me? That seems like a little overkill.
My question is, how much space does/did your DJ need? Does two 8 foot tables seem excessive???

Hmm. That does seem like a lot, but I guess it depends on what services he’s providing and what equipment he’s bringing. Our DJ just used a corner of our dance floor.
Do you have a coordinator or anyone at your venue who can advise based on past events that were held there?

That does seem like a lot, our DJ is only requiring a 6ft table.

Thanks for the responses! I have no idea why he needs so much space. I think I’m going to let my FI handle this one, as it annoys me just thinking about it. He’s not bringing anything special.

That’s very excessive. Our DJ had an assistant, full sound, and LED dance floor lighting, and he only needed a 6 ft long table and about 4 feet of width space.
I would ask him why he requires so much space and see why he might have that requirement because it’s so unusual. Does he have a lot more sound equipment than normal? Assistants? Is he used to being in the middle of a room instead of against a wall? Hopefully it’s not for more advertising space (most DJs hang a banner on the table so people know who they are).
