My fI and I are in between choosing a DJ and a band for the reception. We like the feeling of a band but we also love the the certainty of a DJ (i.e doesnt matter if sick, cant have a bad singing day, etc.)
A DJ has more song selection and does uplighting but we dont really have a strong preference for either one.

I think it depends on your venue and budget. I love a live band but sometimes finding good ones are hard and they are always costly. DJs can get expensive too but not as much. Plus a good DJ can read a crowd and change the mood of a reception as well as MC if you need them to.
We are playing an ipod at our reception. It’s really just a small cocktail party and it’s saving us a lot of money. Just have cocktails and dance playlists set up.

Honestly, I’ve been to weddings with bands and generally speaking, it got so boring after a while. I mean, the band is only going to be able to change up the music so much. At least a good DJ can read the crowd and play music from pretty much any genre or timeframe.

I was at a wedding over the summer – they had an awesome band but it was so loud that you could not hear any conversation at all. I felt especially bad for older guests who were not dancing, they pretty much just had to sit there without trying to talk for the entire reception. So if you go the band route, try and have some “quieter” areas available!

We are having a DJ for our wedding. We chose a DJ because they can play all of the music that we like and approve and do other fun things to make the wedding fun for the guests!

Our actual reception is a luncheon, so we’ll have iPod music during that, but that night we’re going out dancing, and there will be a DJ wherever we end up!
