@charleenbarila: Have you tried Key Music Group ? Here's a link of their site:

You can check out the reviews as well(I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention that site, sorry). He does lighting too and he has/uses drums to keep the crowd going.
Good Luck!
I just started the same search in Northern NJ. I posted on Facebook asking friends for their recs. Here's what I got for DJs:
Premier (DJ Mike)
Paul Anthony (DJ Paul)
Elite Entertainment
For bands, try 107 Productions. They are an agency with lots of bands. They do the whole shebang...Band / DJ combo, cocktail hour, ceremony, lighting, etc. They have sick recession-buster prices too. We're looking at The Fever. They played my friend's wedding and they'll learn any song beforehand.
Can anyone add a band to the list?
hi all, I have a great recommendation - D'Amico entertainment
http://www.damicoentertainment.com/
They are located in East Hanover, they did my friend's wedding in Red Bank last year, FH and I loved them so much, we are having them for our wedding in South Jersey. They have something called the "DJ Alive" package which is a combination DJ with a live vocalist, sax player and keyboardist. I think its the best of both worlds (I did not want a full band).
We just booked our band: Kazz Music Orchestra! They are all great musicians and they have reasonable rates (can be under $4K if you go with the 7-piece band). They play a good range of music styles, their personalities are fun and genuine, not the least bit cheesy or canned — they truly seem to enjoy performing with each other. They are highly entertaining without it feeling like they are trying too hard or being in-your-face about it. And the way they perform the songs just sounds cool, like they put their own (subtle) stamp on the arrangements so they don't sound like lame copycats or wannabes — and it's all very danceable, great energy. You can see the joy on their faces, and it's contagious! My brother is a musician and he came with me to the showcase they did (my fiance was away on business), and he was impressed with their talent, their vibe, etc. And believe me, my brother has zero tolerance for cheesiness. Very excited to have them perform at our reception! :-)
my wedding planner has a great dj that is also affordable! check her out see if she can help out!
hope this helps

I'm having a hard time knowing even where to begin in my hunt for reception music. I always assumed I would want a dj, but I'm wondering if a live band/dj combo is a better option. Anyone have experience with this and/or have recommendations to share? Or just recommendations for good dj's and/or bands in the northern NJ area? I'm really looking for behind-the-scenes personalities (no intrusive and cheesy MC's) that plays a great range of music that will get everyone up and dancing all night long.
Also, has anyone had live musicians (string quartet, etc.) at their ceremony and/or cocktail hour? Thoughts/recommendations?
Any suggestions you have are greatly appreciated!!
