Anyone get a rescue and get a DNA test to see what breeds it has in it? Any idea on accuracy? I always joke about getting one on Tucker, just because of curiousity. Obviously he is MOSTLY lab, the vet and John and I think he is also mixed with GSP and there are times his face looks totally like a Dane. He is about 85 lbs of muscle. Also, his coloring has changed quite dramatically becoming more white after the 1 1/2 years we have had him despite being estimated at 3-4 years old.
What do you think?
The first picture was about a year ago. Second picture was this past March.

My mom just got a half lab, half unknown. She looked into DNA testing, but when she took the dog to the vet, one of the vet techs was sure he could tell what his other half was just by examining his features (eye shape, tail curvature, etc.) The vet tech said the DNA tests are pretty much a joke, don’t even test all breeds, and aren’t worth the cost.
P.S. Your dog is a CUTIE! 🙂

Yeah, like a PP said, the DNA tests are more a novelty at this point. I think Lab/GSP, too. He’s very cute, no matter what he is! 🙂

I don’t have any helpful advice but just wanted to post that he is one GORGEOUS boy! I definitely see a bit of Great Dane in him

We did one – more for curiosities sake than anything. The vet couldn’t tell what else our girl might have in her (besides the lab) and people asked us all the time.
Here’s my thread on it: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/dog-genetic-breed-testing-anyone-tried-it We ended up using the Wisdom Panel test and bought it at Petsmart.
Our test came back as a lab / puli mix and while puli isn’t a breed we had thought of, there are definitely multiple puli characteristics that I can see in her. I’m sure there are other things in smaller fraction too (the test only goes down to 12.5%).
It isn’t a definitive analysis by any means but we had fun with it!
