Where was your DW? Rio Bueno, Jamaica, WI
How much did it cost? We booked at an all-inclusive that does weddings at no charge, planned our date around their big festival, so reception cost was eliminated. We paid for our attire and brought music. Cake, flowers. champagne reception with signature drinks etc all included, and were great. Other than our travel and accomodations our biggest expensises were the OOT bags I did for everyone, they were about $50 each with all the gear we packed inside. I negotiated a great rate, for our guests under $200 per person, per night which turned out to be an amazing deal for all the amenities we got.
How many people? 35 including us
How long before your wedding did you book? 18 months
Did you have the people who wanted to go pay for themselves? Yes, some stayed only 2 nights, others 7, most were there for 4-5 nights.
PM me for additional information, it was a wonderful experience, and everyone had such a good time we are planning a trip back next year at the same time, likely to the same resort... yes, it was that fantastic!
Thats so great thank you!!! what resort did weddings for free if you dont mind me asking!
There are dozens of resorts who include weddings, we used Breezes, but all of the Super Clubs resorts do too. We also looked at other islands, and eliminated all for various reasons, again, PM me for more info.
We are getting married on the Ambergris Caye in Belize, Central America.
In one big figure....... It cost my parents about $8,000. Now that's for flying 10 people down there, and their rooms for 6 nights. (and my room for 8 nights). Plus the wedding cost. that figure doesn't include the food and activites while we are there.
I only invited immediate family (Aunts, uncles, cousins) and a few close friends. We have about 20 people paying their own way to come join us. I just gave them the info and they all booked it themselves.
I visited Belize a year before my wedding so I could pick out a venue/hotel and make sure that's what I really wanted. I put a deposit down on the day I wanted about 8 months in advance, and just booked the hotel rooms last month.
It took about 2 months of researching prices, flights, etc. before deciding on Belize. And I couldn't be more excited to get there 45 days from now!
Let me know what questions you have. I did all my planning myself, so I can probably offer help if needed!
We are getting married on the beach at Barcelo Palace in Riviera Maya, MX in June 2010. We started looking at least a year before and these all inclusive places book FAST! We secured a travel agent and sent out a flier with all the information so people could make deposits and pay monthly. We actually went to MX last September and met a few wedding planners at resorts. Some of these places suck!! Im glad we went down there. Barcelo is awesome. Its hard to tell on a website what everything looks like..We are paying for everything ourselves. the wedding itelf including a wedding package and extras is going to be about 7-8000. Plus our flight + hotel and we also have 5 kids we had to get there and passports!! All inclusive is the way to go.. All in all we had a wedding budget of about 20000 but hey, we wanted to do it and its our day!! We are still planning it now..We are having a rception with a dj and a sit down dinner...Good Luck!!
Where was is DW? Riviera Maya, MX. Xpu-Ha beach.
How much did it cost? about 4,000 (thats ceremony, reception, decor, coordinator, etc)
How many people? We are looking at 30-40 attending even though we invited 180.
How long before your wedding did you book? I did my research about 2 years in advance and waited until the one year mark to start booking.
Did you have the people who wanted to go pay for themselves? Yes they all paid for themselves. We are not paying for anyone. Everyone is so excited that they are more than happy to get pay for an awesome vacation.
My advice would be to first narrow down what your requirements are.
Where is my DW? Fairmont Mayakoba, Riviera Maya, Mexico
How much did it cost? Not sure yet, just signing contract this week! But, estimating it on the higher end, as it's not an all-inclusive resort.
How many people? We're inviting about 120-140, which is astonishingly only family and close friends. We're definitely not expecting them all to come, though we shall see!
How long before your wedding did you book? Well, we got engaged New Years Day, 2010. We just went on a site trip last weekend, the first weekend of February. And we're signing the contract this week for a wedding on 10/30/10! So, about 8/9 months out?
Did you have people who wanted to go pay for themselves? Yes! But, we did try hard to find a resort that would accommodate all our guests varied budgets, we are paying for transport from the airport to the hotel and back, we're doing a welcome cocktail hour, a rehearsal dinner the next night, and a farewell brunch in addition to the reception and wedding. And we're going to do some fairly substantial OOT bags (yay for a Walmart in Playa del Carmen!).
Anything else? I mean, I am still in the opening stages of planning, but I am so far not finding it too hard at all! I definitely felt that a site visit was important, however. As a venue I thought that I'd love from pictures and reviews, turned out to not have a great "vibe." We went with what we thought would be our second choice, but ended up LOVING it so much more!
Where was your DNW?
St. Thomas
How much did it cost?
original budget was 4000, including rings, but I think I went over that due to financial changes since I got engaged in Jan. 09.
How many people?
we have 9 people plus us booked so far
How long before your wedding did you book?
wedding coordinator - 1 year
airfare - 3 months
hotel - 4 months
cake girl - 3 months
reception site - 3 months
Did you have the people who wanted to go pay for themselves?
Absolutely! I am not that kind of rich! I paid for the photographers room and flight (he is a close friend of FI) and 1 night for all the wedding attendants hotel (about $125 for 4 people) and wedding attire as their gift.
and anything else you can possibly tell me to help me plan mine!!!
Don't make decisions about things *just* because you're having a dw. I have decided everything based on what I would do if I was getting married at home.
Example - I thought I had to get a chiffon beach-y wedding dress because my wedding is on a beach. So that's what I bought. I didnt love it and kept looking at other gowns I liked better. I ended up selling it - at a loss - and buying one I love - an A-line, strapless, lace and beaded dress with a train - and honestly, I haven't looked at other wedding dresses since I decided on it.
The wedding hasn't happened yet but it will be at the Grand Palladium Resorts in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic this April. Most of the guests are staying at the adults only Royal Suites Turquesa which is part of the Grand Palladium complex but a handful of friends with children are staying at the Grand Palladium Bavaro. We wanted to be able to stay in the adults only section but also to visit freely with our guests with kids.
The actual wedding and reception will cost around $4k including the legal ceremony expenses, live music, cocktail hour, flowers, private reception, DJ, cake, and wedding coordinator.
We invited 104 people (family and close friends) and have about 45 attending. All guests are paying for themselves.
We booked 7 months ahead and I would definitely recommend doing it earlier than that. All inclusive resorts get booked up very quickly for weddings.
A lot of the planning happens once you get to the resort (i.e. picking out flowers, menu, decorations, etc) so make sure you are comfortable with that before settling on a destionation wedding. I had a hard time the first few months with feeling like I wasn't accomplishing anything.
Best of luck!
Where was your DNW? Walt Disney World, Orlando Florida
How much did it cost? The wedding itself was about $15k but that includes the party the night before, the ceremony and the reception (plus taxes and service charges) but does not include the honeymoon.
How many people? 36
How long before your wedding did you book? Almost a year
Did you have the people who wanted to go pay for themselves? Yes....we didn't pay for anyone. We felt those that wanted to be with us would travel and those that wouldn't didn't. But we also knew all our guests situation and we didn't ask anyone to travel that couldn't afford to go. Some guests are coming down for the whole week and other's are coming down for just a few days.
