Do any other bees work in the wedding industry? How has this affected your wedding or the planning?
Im in a wedding band as a singer and I also work in a wedding dress shop. I can literally spend every day of my life thinking about the details and my own day – and you guys, this is so dangerous for me!! I love it but it makes planning my wedding almost equally easier and harder at the same time. Anyone else in the same boat? Tell me about your experiences!
I maintain that working in the wedding industry has given me so many awesome stories to tell:
Once when I was singing at a wedding, we were in the middle of a banging Stevie Wonder tune, the crowd was pumped and the floor was full when the brides father comes over to the stage screaming about how he wasn’t paying us to play “black music”. To say I was horrified and disgusted by this is a huge understatement.
The father continued to make a huge fuss (and I knew that the bride and groom were totally on board with what we were playing because this particular song, and many others by black artists were on their MUST PLAY lists) when the bride came over in tears and started yelling at her father for ruining her day. The whole dance floor was standing and gawping at the scene between the bride and her father when he was escorted out of the bulding – The bride then made an announcement over the microphone apologising for the interruption and then asked if we knew black or white by Michael Jackson…! I don’t think we’ve ever recieved such applause than for that song!
One thing I’ve learnt it’s that working in the wedding industry is never dull! 🙂
