Do brides really wear spanx under their dress? Are you planning to? Does it really help? I didn't even think of this option because I didn't think most brides did it. Maybe I should...
While it seems to be very popular online, I don't know anyone in real life who has worn it for any occasion. I'm not planning to wear it either.
I'm wearing a spanx knockoff for my wedding. I think lots of people wear these!
Totally - Spanx are great. I have worn them under dresses for formal parties and would definately consider wearing them under a wedding dress. I find that are great for my posture, and that they smooth everything out and prevent things like tummy rolls when sitting down.
I'm not but if I needed to hold things in I would wear them in a heartbeat! I am planing on wearing non-sexy underwear for the smoothing effect. I'm going to pull a switch after the reception :)
yes. i am! in fact, if it's going to be hot -- dancing, summer wedding, destination wedding -- i find that bare thighs can, like, lead to uncomfortable chaffing. perhaps this is cause i'm a size 14, and therefore, you know... i think you might find curvier brides are much more likely to wear stuff like spanx for comfort reasons, actually.
yeah I totally agree with sleepylittlesailor; without spanx or nylons my legs rub up against eachother and I get a rash!
So they are definitely nice for smoothing you out and preventing chaffing.
I live for spanx.. well worth the $$$. I wear them for almost all formal occasions and they always seem to make the last few pounds that I can't get rid of at the gym disappear! make sure you feel comfortable with them though and obviously try then on with your dress!
i'm still debating. i think i'll wait until last minute to see how my weight is at that time, they say brides tend to lose weight toward the wedding so i'm hoping i wont have to worry about it. i'd prefer not too, i just feel like it would be easier not to worry about switching into something sexy at the end of the night, but if i must i must.
I'm a twig and I still like wearing spanx sometimes because they do still smooth and provide support even for thin girls. My dress is very form fitting so I'll probably wear them on my wedding day so that I can actually eat.
i was a BM in 2 weddings this summer and both my girls wore them. One girl only is tiny too - she just had a form-fitting mermaid dress and she thought she needed it. She looked fantastic.
I fully plan on wearing some Spanx or something underneath - I want to not worry about how my stomach is looking at the time....
I ABSOLUTELY am wearing mine! I've worn them every time I have been a bridesmaid/MOH, and sometimes even wear them as a wedding guest...I am most DEFINITELY wearing them on my wedding day (and even wore them to try on dresses!). I LOVE spanx!! They're super comfortable too...just takes a little work to get them on (but well worth it!)
I've also worn mine as a wedding guest. I actually bought them o wear for my wedding and wanted to give them a few trial runs. I think they are great for that smoothing effect and don't leave lines like tights. I don't feel like they make me slimmer, just smoother and with out wobbly bits. I guess I"ll decide at my last fitting if I wear spanx or a long line bra under my wedding dress, it really depends how the dress looks with the bra, SPANX are my trusty backup if I cna't find something cuter.
I wore the Spanx "Power Panty" for my wedding -- my dress was form-fitting and I felt more confident wearing some "shapewear." But I didn't like the traditional Spanx when I tried them on, I thought they kind of flattened out my curves instead of shaping them. The "Power Panty" is more like the top of control top pantyhose. It was so comfortable, and gave me just the right amount of shaping and smoothing!
I know there have been other posts about this but I was looking on the Spanx website and can't figure out which kind would work best simce there are so many different kinds! For the girls that have them, what style do you have??
Thanks for insight! Well I'm not a girl that needs to hold things in, it seems to be a good idea to go with spanx. I went to the spanx's website for the first time and they actually have a section for wedding dress!! Check it out here:

No matter your size, or dress, there's a spanx out there for everyone!
Yesssssss i wore some!
I didn't need the suck in effect, but i like that everything was very smooth. When i sat down, my skin was smoother under my dress and i had no undie lines. I had on the mid-thigh kind--and boy do you SWEAT under your dress. So i liked that i didn't get sweat dripping down my legs or chafing on my thighs. Also I didn' thave to deal with the inevitable thong chafing or panty line got eaten by your butt problem. No matter how much staying power, it usually ends up slipping when you bust an awesome dance move. Then off to the bathroom to fix your wedgie! Mine weren't real snug, but comfortable and smooth. Not real sexy, but hey, whatever. I got mine at Kohls for like $20. But it was really really nice not to have my sweaty thighs bumping together all night. It causes mauor irritatioN!
I'm a big fan of Spanx. It does help smooth, and just mentally it helps. :p
I haven't worn them myself, but a friend recommended them strongly. And I'm definitely going to check out their wedding dress hints jspeby linked to.
I wear spanx a lot for formal occasions, and sometimes when I'm bloated- they are fantastic. I'm a size 2, but I dont have a defined waist, and they cinch it right in! Definitely worth the $!
I tried my dress on at the store once without Spanx and once with... and wow, what a difference! I'm a size 10/12 so for me it really makes me look thinner and smoother.
I wore spanx to a wedding. I love them! I'll totally get a pair in white/nude for my wedding...unless i lose *some* weight before my non-existent wedding date.
I bought them, brought them, but did not wear them! I mainly wanted them so that my thighs did not rub together. I decided last minute not to wear them, and it turned out I didn't need to...no thigh issues all night!
unless I can lose my little pooch in the next few weeks, this bride will be wearing them!
At least for ceremony & pics then I'll probably lose them for the eating and dancing.
Ruelala.com is having a sale on Spanx on October 2. You can use this link as an invitation if needed - http://www.ruelala.com/invite/kstickler01
I bought a pair of the footless nylons for my wedding but may need to upgrade to a more squished in spanx.
I love Spanx! The first time i tried on dresses, they wouldn't zip all the way (I'm an 8/10) and I had about 4-5 inches that wouldn't zip. The next time I tried on dresses, I was wearing Spanx Higher Power Slim Cognito and all the dresses zipped! The sales girl even said something and my Mom was shocked!
I wear spanx to almost every special occasion and they work like a charm. They suck things in and smooth things out and they just make everything look better!
I'll be wearing spanx on my wedding day! Whether you're 120lbs or 220lbs you will benefit from spanx.
Whenever I wear a skirt I'm wearing spanx. I just like how smooth it is, it doesn't feel like you're wearing any sort of control top at all. I promote this product so much with people I know I should be earning commission. You won't regret this purchase.
I'm probably not wearing them for my wedding, because the dress is very structured, but for all the rehearsal dinners, parties?? You Bet I'm wearing Spanx!
I work as an assistant to a costumer for an opera company and we constantly tell people to wear Spanx as a smoother for any formal occasion! I don't care if you're a size 0, clothes look better with spanx underneath (or any knockoff that works, actually)
I wore them for my wedding. Although they probably weren't necessary under my dress, because said dress was really thick and stiff in the bodice.
I love Spanx (or their knockoff brethren) underneath my tighter-fitting dresses. They make your clothes look so good. How do you think movie stars look so great all of the time? Good underwear!
Heck if it will make me look great then I'm in too! I have spanx and wear them w/cocktail dresses.
Btw, Sarah Blakeley is from GA and had a beautiful beach wedding last year! I can't remember what mag I saw it in but she looked lovely.
I love spanx, and I wear them with all formal wear, and even sometimes non-formal. They are amazing.
I have a black skirt that I ADORE, but it has been just a little snug for the last 6 months or so, so I went and got some Spanx and BAM! that skirt looks like a million bucks! Yay!
I've heard a lot of brides saying they are wearing spanx. I am planning to wear one, too, if not, something similar to it. You can take it off discreetly before your new hubby sees you in it after the wedding in your room. ;)
I don't know anyone who has worn them, and I didn't wear one. I saw them at the bridal shop where I bought my dress, though, so they must be fairly popular.
I thought I would share my secret since I see a lot of people who were worried, or may worry about chafing of their thighs on their wedding day. I have this problem a lot, more in the summer time. There is a product I have found that is truly amazing. It is called Chafing Relief Powder Gel and it is made by Monistat. I know, don't let the maker throw you off. It is a gel that you use like lotion on your thighs and it makes them soft and smooth. It last HOURS and is really a miracle product (for me). You can buy it in CVS in the section that sells Monistat and I tell you, I swear by it. For those girls who don't need the smoothing effect of Spanx but are worried I would say to try this product.
hmmm i wasn't planning on wearing them and i never have, but after reading some of these comments i might!
I wore them while trying on dresses and will wear them at the wedding... or at least some body-slimming system.
To follow up on my posting about the ruelala spanx sale, I looked at the site's preview of it and it's all tights. So I hope there are bodyshapers there as well.
From Tecasmeredith's comment, maybe I'll try the incognito one; I have the footless tights but I may want more smoothing.
I'm curvy so yeah, I LOVE them! I think they help many people though, they kind of push everything to the right place or smooth out anything!
