If you aren’t paying for them then they will.  I believe in the UK the bride pays for them is what I have caught on to.

Generally, the bridesmaids buy their own dresses.

Not sure about any other part of the States, but in my area the maids buy them…unless the dresses are crazy expensive or the bride and/or her family is loaded and don’t mind paying for them.

SoonToBeAFK: this depends on where you are from. Its pretty common for the bride to pay for the dresses in the UK whereas i  the US, bridesmaids pay for them.

I wish I could have paid for the bridesmaids dresses but I just didnt have the money for it. I spoke with each of the bridesmaids individually and asked what is the price they can afford for a dress bc I didnt want to break the bank for any of them

Its really up to you – I paid for her hair to be done and for the dress. I thought it was a nice gesture since I picked the style and the color of the dress.

I am in NZ and I am paying for my bridesmaids dresses and all of their hair, makeup and jewellery. The only thing they have to provide for themselves is any pair of black heels.

I’m in Australia, and here the bride pays for her girls’ dresses / hair / makeup etc…

SoonToBeAFK:  It depends what part of the world you’re in. North America: bridesmaid pays. UK: bride pays. Other parts of the world: it varies.

In Australia the bride pays for everything for her bridesmaids. This is why I’m only having two!

I’m in Australia and am paying for my girls’ dresses, hair, makeup and jewellery and I’ve asked them to wear silver heels of their own choosing.  But I won’t be buying them gifts as I think is common in the US.

In the UK the bride usually pays for everything for the bride (or at least gives them the option if not e.g. I am paying for bridesmaids hair, but not make up, but have offered to arrange make up with my artist should they wish). I’m paying for my 4 bridesmaids’ dresses, and getting them a small token gift.

I’ve asked them to wear light coloured shoes of their own choosing.

It depends where you live.  I am in New Zealand, and here the bride typically pays for the bridesmaids’ dresses.

SoonToBeAFK:  It depends where you live. I’m from the UK and the vast majority of couples pay for the dresses; if I was asked to pay for a dress to be in a wedding I would find it extremely rude and be seriously unimpressed.

However, in other places yes, it is the norm for bridesmaids to pay.

I would do whatever is the norm/custom where you live.
