@tanalea123: OMG you're so lucky! I live close to DC so maybe that has something to do with it. *sigh*
@agaberdiel: what are you having to eat? Maybe the food your having is in high demand or pricer????
@agaberdiel: oy... yeah, that's probably got A LOT to do with it! I'm not sure if this is feasable, but maybe you could call around to some Wedding Planners and see if they can help for free/small fee? I did that with one near me for venues and she helped me free of charge! can't hurt, right???
Try R&R Catering based out of Springfield, Va. Thee prices are very reasonable (approx 25-30pp). They actually have their menu online! Good luck!!!!

Try a tasting with Rockland's... they don't just do BBQ and they are EXCELLENT. We use them for our work barbecue every year. R&R also has a great reputation, and they do a monthly open house with tasting. PM me if you want to talk about specific dishes, etc.
We're having an informal daytime wedding at a park, so we're using Famous Dave's for catered BBQ. They're under $15 per person for food, then you pay for the staff, beverages, etc.
Another option might be Helga's Caterers out of McLean. Smaller company but they're prices are on their website and are much more reasonable than some others I was quoted!
This will sound crazy, but something my fiance and I almost went with was Texas de Brazil. If you eat in the restaurant it is crazy expensive, but for 40-50 dollars a head they will bring the meat guys to your location with the firepits and everything as well as sides like they're mashed potatoes, sweet roasted bananas etc. Check out their website as the prices could have changed in the last 16 months, but its worth a look.
We are in NOVA and using basikneads for a fancy but simple buffet for about $5,000 for 150 people (including dish and silverware rentals, staffing, delivery, etc.). The food itself is $16/pp. They are awesome! They'll make you whatever you want. They'll work with you to meet your budget, and are super nice.
I wasn't too impressed with the food from R&R. It was great at our private tasting, but definitely lacking at the open house we went to.
ETA: We did get a bit of a discount because of when we booked. Also, we are providing our own alcohol.
would you eat Arab/Middle Eastern food? if so, message me and I'll send you some recommendations! They charge per platter so you can order whatever number of platters and customize your menu rather than paying those crazy per person prices. But the food is ALL Arab (lamb, shish kabob, Middle Eastern salads like hummus, etc), so if you want more variety then it won't work.
@mishmisha:I'd go with the Middle Eastern Fare. That food is so crazy good!
Hi, don't stress out. As previously mentioned R& R caterers and Basikneads are two of the best priced in northern va. If you need help with anything else you can contact me by way of my website: (link removed)
Hmm... our caterer is Teatime Delicacies is very affordable for bridges on a budget with delicious food (and the wedding cake is free of charge as a gift to you!). Since she was so reasonable, I added welcome drinks, lots of passed h'orderves, 3 main meals & apple wedges with caramel sauce passed around which all totaled to $5,000 for an estimated of 100 people. It will be cheaper since we will have about 80 guests.
I would definitely look into Teatime as the owner, Ruth, is very sweet!

Hi bees!
Thank god I'm not getting married for another 477 days because I'm already freaking out!
I'm having the hardest time finding a caterer for 150 guests that is less than $7,000!!! I've literally chopped my requirements down to the bare minimum! All we need is a buffet and a couple servers! Is that too much to ask?
Any suggestions???
