Many churches do have fellowship halls and they have widely different capacities and rules but they tend to be less expensive so definitely worth checking out.
Some questions to ask:
Get the number for the churches custodian too. I have seen many circuits tripped and boards locked up in the office, toilets overflow, someone forgetting to unlock the church, etc. Maybe invite the custodian... peace of mind is well worth the cost of feeding him and his wife!!!

I do not go to church regularly but my parents are insisting we get married in a church since they are very religious and my FI and I did grow up going to church. It's okay with us, we don't mind granting that wish for them. But my only worry is that I don't want to have two different locations for people to have to go to. I live in San Diego, California. I'd like our guests to only have to go to one location. Is is okay to have the reception at the church too? Do churches usually have rooms to host a reception? I know they have kitchens so that would be helpful as my mom is planning on cooking all the food.
We are so early in the process we haven't asked around or started looking I just was curious first if that even is an option?
