We’re doing a black tie wedding… my family owns their own (high-end) tuxes, his does not, and will need to rent something affordable. It would be nice for my side to be able to wear their own tuxes, which they would probably look better and be more comfortable in, but they could afford to rent something if necessary…
Would it look okay for the tuxes to not ALL be from the same place (provided they’re all black classic w/ black bowtie, no vest) ? Or will it clash somehow?
I feel like the few weddings I’ve been to where they did black tie, all the guys & dads rented the exact same tux from a place like men’s wearhouse except for maybe the groom. Likewise, my FI is planning to buy his own tux… Total there’s maybe 2-4 guys with their own tuxes, and 5-7 more guys that might be renters…
What do you think?

I think no one but you will notice if the tuxes are not the same so it won’t be an issue as long as they are of a similar formality.

I’m doing all different tuxes! We had so many guys that had their own tuxes and all the girls are chosing their own dresses ( in the same fabric and color). I just said that they all have to be black tuxes, white shirts and black ties with suspenders. I think it will be fine!

My FI and I asked the men just to wear a black suit they already owned. A friend of my did the same, and aside from one that turned up in a pinstripe suit, you couldn’t tell!

Our guys all had different tuxes. DH bought his and the other guys just got what they wanted as long as it was solid black. We figured since the girls were picking their own dresses and shoes, the guys should be able to pick their tuxes and shoes too.

I think it’s totally ok for the suits to not be exactly the same. Ours weren’t – you can see how that looked in our recaps if you like. I don’t think it’s a big deal if they’re different but in the same colour tone. It might even look better for people to wear their own suits since they may fit better and look better in the end.

I don’t think they need to be the same. DH bought his, two groomsmen rented matching ones, and a third groomsman had a serious family emergency and couldn’t make it, so another of DH’s friends stepped in, but couldn’t find a tux in time. He ended up wearing a black suit with bowtie… couldn’t even tell they weren’t matching in the pics.
