I think you should go with your feelings on this one. If it's your best friend, it might be nice to get her/them something. It doesn't necessarily have to be expensive, but surely she would appreciate a small gift from you.
Spread the love. :)
I would most definitely get my best friend an engagement gift.
@baffled111 - I think you are right, FI mentioned maybe just a bottle of wine, some chocolates and a DVD so they can have a little date night. He is a police officer that works nights so they don't get much couple time.
A small gift is a nice gesture. I would say yes, get her a gift.
I think it would be nice to get them a little something--like your FI suggested--a nice bottle of wine or something. I'm sure they'd appreciate it. :)
We had an engagement party and nobody brought us gifts.
A bottle of wine is always a nice gesture though.
I'd go with a bottle of wine and a nice card. Nothing too fussy but enough to show you care.
I would defintely get a small gift. My best friend go me a wedding planning bag to keep all my wedding stuff in ... it was like $15. Or a wedding picture frame would be nice. I got my FSIL a candle with her new initial on it for her engagement gift and she got me a box to hold my responses in for my engagement gift. There are so many cute possibilities!
If you feel like doing something, then a little something would be nice. Maybe movie tix or a bottle of wine and such. Or you could buy the happy couple each a drink, or just give a nice congratulatory toast. Since you designed her invites for her, I wouldnt think she'd be expecting a gift anyway.
I don't like to show up anywhere empty-handed, so i agree with others that a bottle of wine, movie tickets, etc. would be a thoughtful gift.

My best friend got engaged on Christmas day 2008. Her engagement party is this weekend (a bit late if you ask me but whatever). Do I get her a present?
It's just a pretty casual get together at the pub down the road, there's around a 150 people coming. I can't remember if she bought us a present when we got engaged or not. I know we didn't expect people to give us anything but most of them did.I designed the invites for her so I know they don't mention gifts.
Advice is appreciated : )
