I’m getting married Oct. 4, 2014 at a local Art Gallery that is one of our city’s historical land marks. it’s a gorgeous building with exposed brick, a small interior courtyard, and an interesting (although small) interior. My colours are different shades of plums and grey (I’ll include a pic). My decor is going to be romantic, organic, and mostly DIY. I want it to look like we put our touch on everything but to look amazing.
Someone asked me a couple weeks ago what our theme was and I was …. stumped. Do I need one? Really? Can’t it just be a beautiful, romantic, wedding the celebrates us with lots of friends, fun, and dancing?
Here’s a photo of the colour scheme I want to incorporate.. it’s the best photo I could find that incorporates the blend.

Hmm, you don’t see any plum in the photo… if you cut out that pink on the left and added a deep purple… that’d be more my speed!

No, of course you don’t need a theme. Personally, I think wedding themes are lame anyway.

@RedAngelDreamer: Agree wholeheartedly.

Nah, you don’t need a theme. They can be useful for articulating how to tie things together, etc, but they aren’t a necessity. I think some people find them helpful for clarifying their design ideas by putting them into words, but they can become gimmicky if taken too far.

I never even heard of wedding themes until a couple of years ago. I’ve heard it said that themes are for children’s birthday parties. I wouldn’t go that for, but a theme certainly isn’t necessary. “Love” and “wedding” are themes enough.

To each his own, but my only theme will be us getting married, lol! I am thinking of making an emblem that represents us though, sort of like an antique crest.

“Wedding” is a perfect theme!

Agree with PPs. My wedding theme is, “We’re getting married! Also, I like red and and champagne!”

I’m going through the same thing right now, and am coming up with a complete loss. I have the colors that I would like to do, but that’s as far as I can seem to get. There are just so many ideas out there. I’m stuck!

Yeah, our theme was also “marriage.” 🙂 We didn’t even have “colors.”
OP, you definitely do NOT need a theme. Your wedding sounds like it will be lovely!
