Do I have to be all "matchy-matchy?" COLOR DILEMMA!

I'm marrying in May in the mountains on the grounds of a beautiful Victorian inn. Spring is my favorite season and green is my favorite color. So my color scheme comprises spring colors: green, blue, lilac, peach, etc. We're using local flowers which we will probably pick that morning or the day before from an organic farm nearby. We want the surroundings to dictate the colors, not the other way around.

Needless to say, I'm not one who insists everything be all "matchy-matchy." But I need to nail down something to give to my matron of honor, bridesmaid and mothers so they can start looking for attire. I'll probably give them a color, a hem length and possibly a few other guidelines and let them get whatever they want.

I was going through my closet the other day and came upon a BEAUTIFUL necklace/earring set that belonged to my grandmother. I really want to convert the earrings (they're currently corkscrews) into drop earrings and add a lengthening chain to the necklace, which is currently a choker. The jewelry set is dark blue/light blue (PIC BELOW)

Do I have to be all matchy-matchy? COLOR DILEMMA! : wedding wedding colors bridesmaid dresses jewelry non matching bridesmaid dresse non matching Vintage Rhinestone Necklace Earring Set

    1. Do the bridesmaid dresses HAVE to match the necklace?

    2. What shades of blue and/or green would go with this set? My MOH insists she looks horrible in pastels. But she says a turquoise/aqua blue would clash with the necklace (note: my MOH is Miss Matchy Matchy to the extreme). I really want to keep with the vintage, springtime motif I'm trying to achieve.

    Suggestions? PLEASE HELP!!!

I wish I had more of an eye for style, but I'd tend to agree a lot more with you on the necessity of "matchy-matchy."

Here's a post that shows a bunch of different kinds of non-matching dresses

    http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/non-matching-bridesmaids-dresses-anyone-do-this

Just remember at the end of the day, it's about what you want. Yes, so maybe your MOH is matchy-matchy to the extreme, and wants perfectly matching dresses for her own wedding, well, if pictures in the above link make you feel happy inside...then go for it! (I know I love some of them!)

I also think that for your MOH to insist that she looks bad in "all" pastels is a little extreme... there are so many varieties! There are more "icy" shades, more "rosy" shades, more "yellow" shades, etc, which would look great on completely different skin tones!
