I’m having major issues picking out a theme for my wedding. I have a color scheme of pale yellow, sage green, and a bluish-grey. We’re getting married in the spring in my little country church I grew up in and I definitely want blue hydrangeas in my wedding (although I know everyone says don’t get your heart set on certain flowers), but my mom and I are trying to grow some for the wedding, which we will need a lot of luck on our side. My fiancee is a music major and I am a nurse. I was thinking of somehow incorporating a music theme into it but I have no idea how. Please, please help because I have a mish mash of “themes” and ideas right now so how can I incorporate all of it together?

If you have a color scheme, you’re just fine. theme’s are great, but the color palette will do you more good in the long run. Enjoy the process and don’t get too hung up on the details!

No way. You don’t have to.

My “theme” is “we’re getting married.”
Sending you lots of good luck for your hydrangeas. They’re beautiful. 🙂

I didn’t even have a color scheme let alone a theme and it looked just fine. We just stuck to neutral everything.

I don’t think you need a theme, maybe just a common link and your colors will do that. From there I don’t think anything matters really. Just pick stuff you like and it will all come together. Good luck on the flowers, I love hydrangeas!!! If anything you can use what you grow and buy some from a florist to fill in where needed:)

FI asked what our theme is – I told him it’s “wedding.”
As long as you have a semi cohesive color scheme, you’ll be fine.

I definitely went for a theme of, “We’re getting married.” It worked out fine!

I guess my main question is, how can I incorporate a music theme into it without it looking too cheesy? The only thing I’ve got is using antiqued sheet music as backing for cardstock invitations.

Well Megan, that’s nice. You already have something. I have no theme, one color and no DIY because, well, I’m not crafty (I am kinda crafty because I’m a lawyer but … you know what I mean, ha ha) So, it all depends on you. You are getting married and plunking down a whole **itload of money, enjoy yourself

I have no idea when or why this whole theme craze started but I dont get it. The theme of our wedding is “love and marriage” and yes we have a color scheme that we are loosely following. Not everything is the exact same shade of green or yellow and there is also a little bit of light blue thrown in the mix!

I had no theme. And I’m so glad I didn’t have one. It meant I wasn’t worried about whether or not something I wanted to do “fit” in with the theme.

OMG, I’m really glad you posted about this because I didn’t WANT a theme, but people just GAVE me one anyway!! The STD that DH picked out had lovebirds on it, so that became our theme for everything. The shower invites, the gifts and my Mom even got a lovebird ice sculpture for our cocktail hour. I mean, it’s not that I don’t like lovebirds as a theme, but that’s not what I wanted for us. I just wanted our colors: Navy, dark pink and silver, a full open bar adn a great band. I thought that was theme enough, but others did not agree!
