Hi, we are planning to have our reption outdoors in New England in September 2012. I love the look and feel of an open air reception but my fiancee worries that weather in New England can turn at the drop of a hat and the risk is too great. Does anyone have experience with an open-air reception in New England? Is a tent mandatory? Thanks for your help!

I’m just shy of New England but as an Upstater (NY) I would highly suggest getting a tent. To be honest, I don’t think I’d have an outdoor event without one. We can go from having tsunami like weather conditions to not a cloud in the sky in a matter of hours. If you ask me, it’s not worth the risk or added stress.

Have you not heard of New England weather? It turns at the drop of a hat. I do not have experience with it, but I would highly recommend it.

Being from CT, I would recomend a tent. The weather does tend to change around here rather quickly.

I’m from CT and the weather there turns just as quickly as it does anywhere else. Talk to the rental companies near your venue to see how long of notice they would need to set one up as a contingency plan.
We have a green house to use as backup and our caterer can provide us with a tent with only 2 days notice.

Um yes, get the tent. The weather here is notoriously unreliable no matter what season. Have a back-up plan just in case.
