Sorry, no advice, but I’m in the same boat (though my hair is on the thin/fine side).

I’ve played with pulling my hair back and I just don’t see how my hair would get turned into that hair. For me, I think I’m either going to have to change hair style inspirations or get extensions. :-

I think you need to check with your hair dresser to really find out.  I’m doing something similar but also already have the clip-in extensions from Sally’s Beauty IF my hair dresser decides she needs them.

I have medium thick hair and am planning on a clip in which should match my hair as I bring it with me when I get my hair dyed every month or so.  The extra fullness would be helpful, I think!

I have very very fine hair and it is just about down to my armpits (sounds silly lol). That picture doesn’t look like it’s an actual braid which means your stylist will have a lot more leeway. I don’t think you’ll need extensions at all for the hairstyle shown. The picture you posted looks more like curls pinned in a certain way. They can do a lot with curling irons and teasing. I have no idea how I’ve had some of the updo’s I’ve had lol but they always manage. If you’re looking specifically for a braided hairstyle though the salon probably won’t have much flexibility and at that point you’d need to start thinking about extensions. Go to your hair trial with this picture in hand (as I’m sure you’re already planning on doing) and if you like the way it turns out there’s no need to get extensions but if you’re not happy you can discuss it with the stylist. She’ll have much more knowledge. If you love it that day and have second thoughts about it later on you can even discuss it over the phone with her.

My two cents as someone who has straight, fine, long hair?

Buy a few clip ins made of natural hair and dye them to be the colour as close to your hair as possible if you cant get them the right colour.  It will make your style look more…. rich and thick and I find they really help hold updos in place as well.  It probably wouldn’t cost all that much and you could prob get away with using even just maybe like 6 or so

I thought I needed some extra hair as well, and invested in the extension, which were non-returnable since they were human hair.  My hair dresser told me I had tons of hair and now I am stuck with the extensions….I’d have your trial first…then decide…you might be surprised.  Good luck!
