I'm scared that the white tips are going to stand out too much?!  Do most people go for the French paint, or are you sticking with a solid colour??  Is it still a classic choice? Or has it seen it's day?  Opinions ladies!!! :D

I think it still looks very nice but only on short nails.  With long nails, it just looks like talons.

PS - I have a french pedi right now!

I think it's still classic. I'm planning on doing one for mine, and I was a BM in June and we all did French manicures and it looked really classy. They put a beigey color over the white, so it's not like it's screaming "I'M WHITE!". I feel like it makes your nails look clean and crisp.

And yes - I agree with MissAsB - none of us had fake nails on or long nails. They were just normal length.

I'm not a big fan of the French manicure - I think it can look nice, but it's just not my style.

I prefer to stick with sheer pink nail polish. Try something like Ballet Slippers by Essie - still understated and classy, but without the more severe of the white in a French manicure.

Everyone looked at me like I was weird when I said I didn't want a french manicure...I don't like the look too much, especially if it's on fake nails! I just used a solid essie color on my natural nails and loved it! I am glad I didn't listen to people that said I "had" to get french.

I'm going to go w/a sheer creamy pink over a french manicure. I haven't really found a shade that I love though. Any suggestions?

I feel like I don't see french manicures very much anymore, but that might just be around here.  I went with a light pink polish.

@JennyChicago: Your natural colored manicured nails look great!! French tips look good on a lot of women, but not all. You made a great choice!

I love french manicures for special occasions.  But I wear a natural looking pink color for everyday.

i'm biased against french nails.. i used to love them but seeing them over done, and done so wrong has made me change my mind. lol people have the white part toooooo white and it looks unnatural to me. i prefer a solid color.

I had a french w/ fake nails done once during high school for prom.  Guess what, they burned my nail bed when they put that filler stuff on my nails.  It was so hot and I remember wincing, the professional got upset.  Two weeks later, I went in and had the stuff removed.  I saw there was an indention made in my nails, I had that for a year.  Plus they looked weird on me, my skin is olive-ish.  I don't chew my nails so my nails are in pretty good shape, and I keep them fairly trimmed, cleaned and I do not plan on having them professionally done.  However, for you my advice is, pick a color similar to what is posted above and if you're nails are really short, then get them professionally done but not super long.

I prefer American - it's more natural looking regardless how long or short your nails are.

I like the look of a shorter nail with a french or american manicure, I just feel it makes my stubby fingers look even shorter- I will most likely go with a solid peach color. My concern is also the condition of the nail, I will be spending the first 6 weeks of summer at an archaeological field school so who knows what my nails will look like at the wedding.

I used to get what my manicurist called an American manicure. It's very similar to a French manicure, but it's softer, more natural looking. I never really cared for the white tips of a French manicure. It just looked fake to me. With the American, the tips and the base of the nails are closer in color, so there's not such a big contrast.

French manicures are nice and classic, but they're so difficult to maintain-- when it chips it's so obvious! I prefer soft pink/peach.

The last few times I have gone in for a manicure (once when I was a BM in a wedding in the spring), I had them use the top color that they would usually use for a french manicure and just do the whole nail.  My nails looked clean and natural, but polished as well.  Also, when they chipped you couldn't tell at all!

French manicures are tacky- and I think French pedicures are even tackier! I'd stick with a nude/light pink/sheer ivory all over.

French manicures remind me of 2001 Britney Spears. I had RED nails and toes for my wedding.

I also think american manicures look really pretty.

to me, french manicures seem kind of dated. i have essie's ballet slippers on my fingers right now and i'll probably go with this or a similar color for the big day. part of me wants to go with a dark color for our fall wedding but i'm just not sure...usually i wear essie's wicked through the fall and winter.

I read somewhere recently that the French manicure trend is dying out. That's not to say it's bad or anything. It looks really nice on some women! I think I'll stick with a creamy pink or more natural tone though. I love, love, love JennyChicago's!

I've actually never had one before, and I'm pretty sure I won't bother.  I wear a pale, sheer sandstone color every day, but I think I might do something solid, and opaque that day!  Thanks for your input everyone!!

I got a french mani and Loved it!! But unfortunately the heat and humidity in Jamaica made the nail polish all sticky so it collected dirt!! I got my toe nails painted blue :-)

I want to get a regular pedi, and a french mani. I would have done arylics, but since I'm not allowed to paint my nails or wear fake ones at work, I think it is a nice compromise. It will be on less that a week anyway. = )

I like french manicure just fine, however I've always pictured myself in an ivory lace dress with a deep red rounded tip nail on my wedding. Example belowDo I really want a French Manicure?? : wedding Nails Christopher Dadey

I don't think any of us can really answer this question for you. Personally I love french manicures and will probably have one for my wedding. French manicures are classic, not tacky. In fact, not a single idea in this thread is tacky.

Not to say that you should get one... I think everyone's style is their own thing. I think all of the colors and styles mentioned in this post would be beautiful and it's just a matter of what you prefer and what your personal style is.

I agree with others that American manicures look more natural.  It's like a softer more ivory color rather than white.  I also like rounded tips better than square for comfort reasons as well as it looks better on my short fingers.

I prefer a nude or sheer pink on fingernails. But if you're set on something like a French manicure, I think the American manicure is a much more natural looking version of that.

i think french manicures are a regional thing???  I never see anyone with them around here.  I prefer a light pink sheer color like Essie High Maintenance or Spaghetti Strap.

I'm going solid pinkish and then possibly navy on my toes.  Navy or deep red.  Why not?

I used to have gel nails in french and LOVED it because I'm very hard on my hands, but to be honest, the upkeep was too expensive and there's something about natural that feels better.

I also think short manicured nails with a soft color (non-french) is very cute and sexy in a sweet way.
