I'm so sorry this happened to you! Can you report them to the BBB? Is there another seamstress in the area who might be able to add som fabric to the dress? I know your wedding gown shouldn't be pieced together, but this might be a solution for you that you can at least try to fix the dress.
Are you able to call the shop and speak to the owner rather than the manager? Perhaps there's something they can do? Or...have you tried looking for the style dress elsewhere? Maybe someone else is selling the same dress for cheaper.
Ugh...I feel terrible for you. I hope something works out for you and you can still wear your dream dress!!!
Oh my gosh that's awful!!! I'm so sorry this happened to you!!! The only thing I can think is A) Call the dress designer and see if they can help , B) Call the Better Business Beareau and lodge a complaint. That's just ridiculous that you were treated that way. I would be beside myself. Is the woman who was so rude to you the owner? Maybe you can go over her head? There's got to be SOMETHING you can do. I heard about one bride who sat in her bridal store for HOURS complaining to anyone who would listen (customers and staff) until they agreed to fix her dress. That's just not right what they've done to you.
Funny, I was just reading Bakerella and then a Bakerella Bee posts here. Silly.
I would honestly try contacting the designer directly. First, go to the designers website to compare your measurements to the size it says your dress is. Make sure you have that info readily available. They need to make this right, this is a discgrace that they spoke to you like that and refuse to work with you
their BBB site is here http://www.bbb.org/concord/business-reviews/bridal-shops/madeleines-daughter-bridal-shop-in-portsmouth-nh-13000402
no complaints thus far on there, but there were plent on weddingwire about their quality of service and dresses being ordered in the wrong size
I do feel badly that this happend to you-but what did your contract say? Mine says that when i pay in full for my gown I can not return it or get a refund.
Did you pay with a credit card? If so then this is EXACTLY the situation where you should do a charge-back. Contact your credit card company and they will walk you through it. You purchased a gown in one size and they sold you another and won't let you exchange it for the right size. Charge-back!
Agree with snmcdowell!! Both VISA and Mastercard have that protection!! That's just bad business!
Yikes, that sounds terrible. I bought my dress there after several women I know gave it glowing reviews, and honestly, they were awesome with me. I can’t remember my saleslady’s name, but she was great. But, I did buy a sample dress, so I didn’t have to have them order anything. I’m sorry you had such a bad experience there!
I have to get some alterations done – perhaps I won’t go there for my alternations afterall….
@ilikepink - I had no idea that site existed! I'm not as original as I thought, LOL! Thanks for the heads up, it looks like a new fave for me!
I am sorry that you had a bad experience there.
However, I had an excellent experience with them as did my sister, and one of my best friends. My sister ordered her wedding dress and all of her BM dresses there as well as her veil. Same for me. My friend also got her wedding dress there. I have several other friends who got dresses there. All with rave reviews.
I wouldn't think twice about recommending Madeiline's Daughter to anyone. Again, I am sorry you did not have a good experience, but I felt the need to chime in so that others would realize that your experience may be the exception, and not the rule.
Call and ask to speak to the owner or make a trip up there when you know they will be open and speak to the owner and threaten the better business bureau.. it works...
It is their fault and they should do everything in their power to correct the situation! Keep harassing them with emails/phone calls until they correct the problem! You don't want to run out of time!
I'm so sorry you are going through this!
I agree with several other posters...I went there to find my dress, and have had an absolutely amazing experience with them. Maybe you should try and talk to the owner? Given their reputation, I'm sure that they will do something to help you out. Luckily you have enough time before you wedding to re-order the dress.
Best of luck!
Was the dress ordered in the wrong size or was the dress not made to the size specified? I've read other posts on weddingbee where the dress was ordered in the correct size but was made smaller.

Either way, its astonishing that the salon has not made any attempt to be helpful. I would go back to the store with the dress, and speak with the owner in person.
I was there yesterday trying on dresses with Brandie, and I had a very positive experience. Everything was fantastic, and she was able to pull dresses that ALL looked fantastic on me. Ill update more if I decide to go with them when purchasing!
I'm so glad you were able to get things sorted out KathyK. I've been wondering what the update was! Did you end up going to the owner?
I know this is an older review, but I just had to add a reply. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but I have to say Brandi has been my consultant there and it's been a dream. She has made everything so simple - from suggesting dresses that really suited me, no problems with the ordering, and the dress came in and fit fine. I have read other reviews that state they are overpriced, but when you walk in the door for your first appointment they have you fill out a form with conact info and what you'd like to spend. I think they really honor that budget limit and don't try to push you for more. In my experience the staff at Madeleine's Daughter has been friendly, professional, and well worth the trip!

Sorry, there are no users yet.
I am really laid back. It takes alot to make me go out of my way to write a negative post about a bridal shop BUT i had a horrible experience with Madeleine's Daughter in Portsmouth NH.
Before i went to Madeline's Daughter I went to about 10 other bridal shops looking for a gown. None of them really carried a dress that i loved. I was told to go to Madeline's Daughter by my cousin. I got there and they were really eager to get a sale (I'm in sales so I like a good sales person) the place was cute and organized and I found the dress of my dreams. It came in really quickly and I was excited to pick it up!
I called BRANDIE who was my consultant and scheduled a date to come by to fit it and pick it up. My mom also called to double check the date and time. I live 2 hours away from Madeline's daughter so it's hard for me to get up there. We went on my scheduled day and they were CLOSED. There was a women inside organzing dresses and she let us in and got my dress. I asked to try it on and she said I wouldn't be able to becuase they were closed. I was mad because I wouldn't be able to come back up for a while. I thought back to how professional I thought my consultant Brandie was and said "I trust that she ordered the right gown for me". and we left with the gown. BIG MISTAKE.
My mom kept the gown at her house so my fiance wouldn't see it and I drove two hours back to my house.
I recently decided to drive to my mom's to see her and tried on the gown. The gown was too small. Not by a couple inches...but at least 4 sizes smaller then my mesurements!
I immediatly brought the gown to a seamstress who measured me -- and my measurements were correct on the contract from madeline's daughter -- but then she measured the gown and it was 6 inches off from my measurements! If it was a couple inches off I would've been like "Ok I have to lose some weight and get into that dress"....but even if I lost 40 pounds -- (I would weigh about 80 piunds if i did that) the dress still wouldn't fit --- it's that small.
I called and spoke to a manager who was very rude to me. I was calm and told her the situation and asked what we could do. She said "Buy another dress"..and I started crying becuase I cannot afford to lay down $1000 for another gown! Who can?!
Then I said "This is my WEDDING GOWN...it's special I love it" and she said very non-challantly "Yah you already said that. I get it. Why do you go relax and havesome coffee." ...I was so upset and blown away. I understand that I should've not left the place with the gown. But all I want is a size that fits me!
They then suggested that I add a coresetted back to the dress.... I was so upset when they said this. My gown should'nt look like frankenstein with all different peieces. It has buttons all the way down it should fit how I bought it.
I trusted Brandie to order a dress based on my mesurements. They didn't even spell my name correctly on the contract.
I'm so upset. I can't afford a new gown. I should've made them let me try it on and just sucked it up and gone back - but I didn't. Now I'm in this horrible situation and they are being nothing but rude to me. Not giving any helpful suggestions or trying to ease this painful situation.
I told many of my friends and then the horror stories poured out!!
Sooooo many of my friends have had nothing but issues with MAdeline's daughter!! One of my friends ordered a dress and when she went to pick it up it wasn't the correct dress. they told her all sales are final. She said "I didn't buy that dress" and they wouldn't give her money back or tell her when her real dress was coming. She had to take them to court to sort it out!
Don't go there unless you prepare yourself and DONT SIGN ANYTHING THEY GIVE YOU!
