Whhhhhhatttttt??? That sucks! What are you gonna do now? Hope everything will turn out well for you!
I'm going to blog about it, Tweet about it, post it on Yelp and everywhere else I can leave a review. I have some backup options, but they have my money!
SHIT!!! We have our DJ booked with THe Pros. We also have our photographer through them but I have actually spoken directly to my photographer and really like her a lot so Im not worried about that. I have been telling FI that I am worried abotu the Pros and think that we should have a back up plan. He thinks everything will be fine. He paid the full amount in advance and I told him that was a BAD idea because now they have our money and dont have to send anyone!!! I will be downloading all my songs to my iPod just in case!!! Im so sorry this happened to you! I hope you figure something out!
Oh and what are they planning to do about the situation and your money??
Oh NO! I am with the rest of the ladies are you able to get any type of refund since its not your fault the DJ is unavailable. Hope you are able to figure out another plan of action!
@Clarebee: That is GREAT that you have already talked to your photographer! That would give me a lot of peace of mind. I had some worries about the DJ (honestly, this was my biggest wedding fear), but they did offer replacements... the problem is that we booked the only Bhangra DJ they had in the area, and as it turns out, she's not actually in the area! Think they would have known that before... TODAY! The two replacements are not people that I would have hired, visually or musically. I'm super disappointed.
Wow, I'd be SO pissed. I hope you get your money back! You hired a specific DJ who plays specific music... unless their replacements are equally qualified, they need to give you a refund!! I hope everything works out for you guys.
The latest update is that since they require final payment to be made electronically by check (not credit card), we can't do anything to stop them from taking our money. We were ready to close the checking account altogether, but apparently my bank can't do a debit hold. We're getting screwed in every direction! DON'T HIRE THE PROS!!!
omg that sucks so much. any way you can work your almost-lawyerness and send them a threatening letter? have you interned at any firms that you're still friendly with to have one of the lawyers write it as a favor? I've written several letters for people on firm letterhead because I find that a firm name + certified mail tends to get responses. Good luck!!!!
Do you have your contract on hand? While I bet it has a clause that allows them to change the person, it sounds to me like they fraudulently induced the contract my offering the services of a person that they knew was not available (out of your area). Basically, if they do not bend over backwards, you could have a real lawsuit that would include punitive damages.
So sorry you are going through this.
If you want to not make that last payment, you can talk to your bank and put a stop payment on it. The stop payment can be for between amounts, just is case they try to put it through for different amounts.
@Corgi: I kept working for judges and librarians, but Mr. S's cousin is a pretty big shot and might be willing to write a letter if necessary... he already is looking for a replacement DJ for us. ;)
@monitajb: they do have that clause, which is why I was feeling so dejected at first. But I did make pretty clear that the only reason I hired them was this specialist and I got multiple confirmations over six months that she would be our DJ... and the day after I sent the final payment the branch manager tells us she is living in Florida. It reeks to me.
Does CA have a state version of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act? This sounds like a clear case - misrepresentation about the goods or service, upon which you relied when making the transaction. I hope it works out!
I am pretty sure they do, but I'm hoping to just get a straight-up refund before having to sue. We did finally hear back from somebody--apparently the branch manager made the call and never told the main office that there was a problem with a DJ, and they've been very apologetic and have offered a refund if the alternate DJs are not satisfactory (which they're not). If we actually get the refund, I'd rather stay out of court... too expensive.
I have heard of this happening with the pros way too many times. If you google any reviews on them you will find this same complaint. The rope people in because they are inexpensive and have been known to switch DJ's at the very last minute. There has to be a way to get the word out their more clearly because they are all over the US and this seems to have affected many brides.
I am so sorry you are going through this and hope that you find a great new DJ.
