Update to my last post on Aodaivinh.com:
Ao Dai Vinh finally contacted me back after 3 weeks timeframe from the point I first contacted them about the problem. They were apologetic about the issue and agreed to give me a 50% refund, which they did. In terms of the fit, everything fit perfectly. The fabric material of the outer jacket was made out of polyester; the picture on the website looked like satin.
Thank goodness I didnt order ao dai from them, my best friend gave me their site a few months ago when i first started planning my wedding, i fell in love with all their ao dai's and wanted to change into one at the reception because i've never worn one in my life and always wanted to wear one. I also wanted my BMs to wear one too, something in my gut just told me not to order from them especially seeing that they are based out of Vietnam, now im sooooo glad I didnt
Yikes! What a bummer! )= I'll just order my ao dai straight from the motherland through relatives to avoid issues like this. Thanks for posting!
Oh my god..this company is very bad. I have trusted them since their websit looks proffessional enough. I asked my relative to order Ao Dai for me and my fiance there.HowThey charged my FI $5 extra because his size (yeah right). But we still agreed to pay. Mine was fine but FI ao dai was way too big. Fine, man ao dai should be a little loose. ever, the front of the dress is wrinkle and you could see folds. I took picture and ask my relative to contact them. The owner didn't even come down to talk to my aunt (called a head) and said that they wouldn't do anything unless the person came to the store and wore the dress...They knew that the dress had been shipped oversea and we couldn't do it. They also said it is probably because we didn't know how to wear Ao Dai..I mean come on..how hard could it be..I finally found out the reason..they mis-aligned the buttons so it causes the folds. Now I have to try to fix it myself..so disappointed with this store..DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM..they don't take responsibility for their product.
EVERYONE!!! DO NOT buy anything from AO DAI VINH (www.aodaivinh.com). I was planning for a year to select several ao dai on line as they seemed very attractive. Luckily, I had a chance to visit VietNam last year and had to look them up. In the pooring rain, I was able to locate the shop (nothing like you would expect). There were no store front just a simple room with a sewing machine. Since I already knew the dresses I wanted, I asked the owner to pull them up on line so there won't be any misunderstanding. After spending an hour with her discussing 2 ao dai, I was a bit skepticle but gave them the benefit of the doubt and order them. I should have trusted my instinct at the time. She kept telling me that the materials shown on the web were no longer available and that there will be substitutions. Several fabrics were shown to me in pieces that were not comparable to what was shown on the web. Finally, she said she'll TRY to get it the same. What the hell right? Imagine I had ordered it on line?
Cut to the chase, I had to leave VN early and my friends stayed behind to get the dresses. When they were brought back to US, they were NOTHING like what I ordered. I called Ao Dai Vinh in VietNam and complaint. Well, you guessed it. Nothing happened and I'm stuck with 2 ao ai at $100 each hanging on my closet.
DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THEIR PICTURES ON THE WEB. THEY ARE SCAM!!!
I just want to say that these reviews have made me very skeptical about ordering from www.Aodaivinh.com.... But I did it anyway and my ao dai went beyond my expectations!! I usually don’t post reviews, but I felt that there were so many negative reviews out there that they needed to redeem themselves.
I live in Houston, TX and barely speak a lick of Vietnamese, let alone write it. It costs ~$500-600 to get one made by someone you don't know. I don't have any connections in Vietnam to get it made in person, so i ordered this design online on 15-Oct-11:http://www.aodaivinh.com/gold-wedding-ao-dai-wg097.html
It includes the ao dai, pants, jacket, and hat.
I received an email from Thi and she said that I will receive my ao dai around 15-Nov-11. One month after ordering. I asked her a few questions and she responded very timely (within a day or so). The package came in the mail on 16-Nov-11.
It came in a UPS 13.5" x 11" x 3" box. Everything was folded and wrapped individually in a clear cellophane bag.
The jacket was a gorgeous soft and light organza fabric (I thought it was going to be the rough fabric like the wire-edged ribbon you see in craft stores). I was afraid that the beading would be 'glued' or 'painted' on as said by other reviewers. I was hoping for it to be embroidered. But each bead was HAND SEWN into the jacket. I can't express how truly impressed I am!! The pictures online don't do it justice.
Even the back of the jacket had beads sewn into it! I LOVE THE JACKET!
The ao dai and pants and hat were in a beautiful fabric and color. The ao dai is a very bright turquoise color with gold/light yellow flowers. The fabric gives that ‘silk’ look due to the sheen. The pants are a light gold/cream color that matches the jacket. It isn’t as dark as the hat.
The fit of everything was great! They tell you to measure close to the skin but I made sure to add 2-3 cm to everything for more breathing room (I want to be able to hold my arms up lol). I also like how they show you how to measure yourself. The pants are a little long…they probably expect you to wear heels but I am going to wear flats, so I will have to hem them.
Overall, they went way beyond my expectations. I emailed them and told them to thank their seamstress(es).
Their quality may have been bad in the past, but they have definitely improved. I told them I will post this review on several forums as a ‘thank you’ and as a way tho show that they have redeemed themselves.
Below I have attached some pictures. Please pardon my crappy camera phone. The colors are really skewed in them. I hope to get more pictures after the dam hoi/engagement. (I wasn’t going to wear an ao dai on my wedding day, but now I really want to!!)

Here is an update of my dam hoi (engagement)! I didn't get a lot of pictures with close up details, but this one came out nicely. What do you think?

Do not buy your ao dai dress at aodaivinh.com! I received a dress that looked quite different from what was shown on the website. On the website, style 164 shows a red jacket with embroidered edges and an embroidered dragon and phoenix on the front. When I received the ao dai, those things that were supposed to be embroidered were painted on! It looked cheap! I thought that when I purchased the dress at $100 that I was getting a great deal, but you pay for what you get. I have contacted the company to complain about the "false advertising" and have not heard a peep from them. My next step is a credit card dispute. Do not put yourself through all this to save a few bucks; it's not worth it!
