Every shower I’ve been to you bring the gift with you so the bride/new mom/whoever can open them in front of everyone.

I would set them out for the shower, the ones you’ve already received. So even though you don’t get to open them everyone can see.

My shower is on Sunday… and all of our gifts have been mailed.  My mom has taken all of the boxes (they are being delivered to my office and we work together) and taken all the presents away from me… 🙁

But my shower is on Sunday so I am pretty excited!

Are they maybe sending them because you live in the city and they think that would be easier? Can someone, your mom or a bridesmaid maybe, casually say to one of them “Hilsy got your gift in the mail! I thought you were going to be at the shower?” and see what happens?

I had one gift mailed because on Bed Bath and Beyond if they don’t carry it in the store (half the things I guess I registered for) they offer to ship it to the house free of charge and then the person gets a piece of paper saying what they got to take to the shower.  I am not sure if you use them or if other places do this.  I opted not to open the box until the shower but it was only one gift.  Or maybe they sent the gift since it is in Manhattan they didn’t want to lug it to the restaurant either.

Here’s another idea….

My mother and father (in additon to other various gifts) gave us a new fridge and my gramma gave us a new stove.  My brother purchased us a new camera….

Obviously those are gifts that w couldn’t bring to the shower – but at the end of opening up the gifts, I mentioned each person’s name and the gift they gave us….

Maybe you can do that?

@hilsy85My shower is actually being held at my parents house so she won’t have to move around much.  I do feel you about being in Manhattan… I don’t know if I would bring the gifts either.  I would just make an announcement that you have received the gifts and that you thank them very much.  Or tell each person that you loved their gift…

I hope it works out for you.

Or use that camera to take pictures to pass around of the gifts those people sent you?

I haven’t heard of sending the gift… I’ve mailed gifts before, but only when I wasn’t going to the actual shower.  Could be a NYC thing?  Maybe people don’t want to lug a big box all over the city?

If someone is attending the shower, they bring the gift with them as that the point of the party. Very odd that they are doing the opposite. The only time someone might mail a gift is if they are unable to attend.
