I think it would look fine to have 2 of each--that would look balanced. And honestly, I don't think it would matter that much if one of them looked different! Before my FI and the salesperson pointed out the differences to me, I had no idea of all the little details tuxedos have.
Also, like you said--it seems silly to waste the $ to rent other tuxes when the guys own theirs.
As long as they have similar overall style I don't think it would really matter.
We are on the fence if we want the guys to all rent 2-buttons as that is what FH will have (though he's planning on buying his, none of the others own a tux) or just have them go with whatever flatters them best as long as they are similar.
I honestly don't think anyone will notice as long as they are a fairly similar style and black. Most of our GMs have tuxes and I wanted to let them wear their own tuxes, but FI is being a style snob and insisting they all match.
Hey, it's not like someone is going to tell you how to do YOUR special day, right? :)
Some people might not notice but you will notice in your pictures. I'd either see if you could get your FI and Mark to switch jackets (So the groom looks different) and get the final groomsmen a 3 button tux so that all of the groomsmen match, or get a new jacket for Mark and full tux for other groomsmen.

Here's the story:
My FI is standing in his groomsman's wedding in May. (We'll call this groomsman Mark.) As a groomsman's gift, Mark is giving my FI a tuxedo. One of my FI's other groomsmen (Jack) is also in Mark's wedding and will also be receiving a tux.
I was thinking about simply having the guys wear the tuxes they'll already own for Mark's wedding, but Mark's tux only has two buttons, while my FI and Jack's have three. They're all of similar style and black.
Questions:
1) Will it look funny having different tuxedos, as long as the ties and everything else match?
2) We have a third groomsman, should we put him in a matching 3 button (so only Mark would have the 2-button, or should we put him in a 2-button tux so there are two of each? (We're having co-best men, Mark and Jack... So one will match the groom, one won't.)
3) What would you do? It seems silly to rent different tuxes if two of three groomsmen plus the groom already own them.. But I don't want it to look funny.
