Myself or the brides mother is not having any type of bridal showers. That is not our style. Both ourselves and the mother & step father of the bride are going to be hosting a Couples Shower for our children at a small country resort and it will be very casual. Probably doing bbq type eats. We will also be inviting a few guests that are unable to make the wedding. I’m guessing 50-80 people at this couples shower. My dilema is they are having a dj for their wedding. They wanted to play certain songs during the dance. NO live music. Is is ok to book a local band who played for our wedding and has known our son since he was little for this event? Will this take away from the wedding? The brides mother and step-father are all for it since we grew up with live music and dancing every weekend. The Couples shower is june 4th and wedding is July 9th

I’ve never seen a band at a shower, but if it works for you, that’s great.
On the other hand, people related to the bride and groom aren’t really supposed to host showers at all…
I would consult the bride and groom. If they feel like having a dj is a “downgrade” from a band, they may feel awkward about having it at their shower, but not wedding. But, they may also just feel that it’s different than what they have planned and that’s great.

In our area it is normal for the mothers of bride & groom along with the attendants to throw a bridal shower on the grooms side and then brides side. We opted out of the “traditional” bridal shower to throw one large couples shower to include both families. Of course the attendants will be involved with this as well. I’m just organizing this since no bridesmaids live in the area.
I’ve talked to the bride & groom regarding the band. The only reason they didn’t get a band for the wedding is they really want certain songs to played for the wedding recepetion. They/we don’t think it’s a “down grade”. So they are fine with having it at the couples shower.
Thank you for such a quick response.

I think it would be awesome to have a band for a couples shower. It sounds like it will be a different vibe from the wedding since it’s a casual bbq, so I wouldn’t worry about it taking away from the wedding.
