We recently married in the Bahamas and I’ve been able to do the whole name change rigamarole, etc. My question is, is us just having the certificate enough, or do we have to file it somewhere in our state courts? Thanks!

@MissHarleyBlue: Yep, sure did. We actually left the island with two copies and are receiving the third in the mail in a few weeks. Thanks!

@mrs_pudding_pop: I would call your local courthouse, or go in, and ask them. Since every state is so different in their laws you want to make sure all of your bases are covered in this case. 🙂

Every state has different marriage laws and how to file. Your local county clerk should know how to help you through this. 🙂

@mrs_pudding_pop: i got married in st lucia and when i called our local town hall, they said there was nothing further i needed to do. im somewhat skeptical on that, but all the state agencies have accepted my foreign marriage cert so im guessing you should be fine as well.

@Pixie26: Yeah, I have changed everything over to my married name and no one asked if I had filed it locally so I guess that means I’m good to go. Buuuuut, as DH says this is kinda important so I’ll call just in case!
