Originally, my Fiance and I were not going to register for the duvet insert. I have a duvet now, I got it in 2007. Now, I’m wondering if we should go ahead and register for a new one.
– We could still use my old bedding as back up, or if someone would spend the night. Now, we don’t have another queen size bed to put it on, but we could certainly use it if they slept on the couch or something.
– This one is five years old. How long do these things last?
– They are expensive! Our guest list is in the upper 200’s. We’ve registered for about 250 gifts. Out of those 250 gifts, 9 are $100 or more in price.
Any advice would be helpful :-). I am so clueless with bedding!

I would register for it. Fiance and I have two. We (I) use the second one during the winter when it is colder because I like extra covers and he likes it cold. Personally I would plan on spending at least 100 on a gift for attending a wedding, I’m not sure how much more the duvet is, but if you only have 9 in that range you might end up with a lot of guests purchasing multiple things off of your registry and having to register for more things.
One option is to not register for it, since it is a lower priority item, and add it if those larger ticket items get purchased. That way you know the things you want most are getting purchased first.
One final thing to consider is storing the duvet. We keep ours on the top shelf of our closet, and wouldn’t use that space otherwise. But if you plan on not having a ton of room for storage it might be more trouble than it is worth.
I feel like this is your “last” chance to get a gift like this. Otherwise you will have to purchase it yourself eventually. Not that thats a bad thing, but personally I would like to receive gifts for the home for my wedding because I hate spending money on them, so I will end up with nicer things this way. Fiance and I are in college/grad school though, so it might just be that we are in a different point in life than you and your Fiance.

Oh, and now is your opportunity to upgrade to a king. They’re amazing! Register for king sized bedding and buy a nice king sized bed with cash gifts. You won’t regret it. I promise 🙂

it depends on your insert, if it is down you should get a new one as soon as possible, down comforters should not be used more than 5 or 6 years as they can collect dust and mites and will start to decompose after a certain amount of time (now I was taught this when working at Macys so they might have just been convincing people to buy new inserts, I don’t know)
If you insert is acrylic or synthetic then I would say you are fine to use it as a back up and register for a new one. If you get it great if you don’t… not harm done but it would be really nice to have a fresh one to put in your new duvet.
A registry of 251 is not terrible if you have several small items on your list (some people will most likely purchase several small things like kitchen tools as one gift so keep that in mind)
