Fiance and I are hosting the rehearsal dinner ourselves but don’t have a lot of money left over to get gifts for our ceremony readers (4 total). Do you think it would be ok if we just gave them a nice thank you note and mentioned them during our thank you speech during the rehearsal dinner?
FYI…We’ll be giving our bridal party their gifts privately the mornig of the wedding.

I was a reader recently in a wedding and honestly until I read this post it didn’t occur to me that I didn’t get a gift. So I wasn’t bothered by it. The couple didn’t have a formal RD it was just them, the bridal party, the usher and my husband and I. They paid for all of our food and drinks and just verbally thanked everyone. I know the bride gave the two bridesmaids a gift the morning of the wedding.

i think a heartfelt note would be very nice. i’m with vintage–it didn’t occur to me to give a gift to a reader (not that it’s bad), but yes, i think a card is completely appropriate.
