Mrs. Bee has a fierce anti-aspartame policy.
But I loves me some Diet Coke and Diet Snapple.
We agree on so many things in life: religion, abortion, political apathy… and yet we’ve hit this one huge disagreement.
I try to split the difference and use Splenda whenever possible. See… I try?
I hope she doesn’t make me choose between her and aspartame. I would definitely choose her, but it would be such a painful choice!
Do you partake of the aspartame? What about your FI?

Hahaha. This is hysterical. I can’t say we’ve ever discussed the issue! A new topic for pre-marital counseling. 🙂

Wow. It never occurred to me that other couples have the same argument.
I’m totally anti-aspartame. But this is interesting: it turns out that some people are "tasters" for aspartame and others aren’t. To a taster, aspartame tastes like, well, crap. It’s disgusting. Then there’s the health aspect, which, while I’m not incredibly clear on the matter, I tend to lean toward natural, less-processed foods.
The Mister, on the other hand, has a penchant for Diet Coke. Says it tastes great. Bleh. But as long as our kids aren’t drinking it, I’ll be fine.

Haha. This is funny. I belong at your wife’s anti-aspartame party. I cannot stand the taste of artificial sweeteners. It lingers! Which only irritates me more, because I didn’t like the taste in the first place, so why would I want to continue to taste it??
My FI is with you on this one, too. He enjoys his diet sodas. Luckily, I don’t really like soda so it’s not bad. The light yogurts are gross though. We buy separate yogurts. My FI has really come around with this though. He’s reading labels to check for aspartame/sucralose/whatever else they come up with.
Good question. 🙂

Just to clarify: in addition to not liking the taste of the aspartame, Bee’s main concern is for my health. Apparently, Diet Coke is not good for you – could this be true????

Mr. Bee, I’m sure you already get enough of this from Mrs. Bee, but that stuff is poison! Don’t drink it!!
I’m anti aspartame as well, but my FI can’t get enough of Diet Coke either. Yuck…

Oh I hope not. It is what got me through law school! I asked my doctor about it once, but he said it was fine, and that he never would have made it through med school without it!

My husband hates aspartame as well, but I’ll admit that I love me some diet coke. I am trying to cut back, but coke zero is too sweet!

if doctors recommend that you not eat aspartame while you’re pregnant, it can’t be very good for you. i’m pretty much against all artificial sweeteners and only buy mr. bee diet snapple and diet coke once in awhile.
i must convince him to quit!

I would hate to give up my Diet Coke, but I totally would if I could just convince the FI to quit smoking!
He doesn’t really like artificial sweeter, but the man has other weaknesses, obviously.

mrsbee, doctors also recommend that you avoid deli meat, sushi, and soft cheese while you’re pregnant! 🙂
is mrbee allowed coke with splenda?

My FI and I are completely addicted! Out of all the arguments we have, this is one topic that will never be a problem 🙂

I always choose Splenda when possible and I’m diabetic so I can’t really have the real stuff, like um Sugar. But there is the newer Truvia/PureVia sweetener, that I love!
P.S. I try to stay away from Diet Coke (and other dark sodas) b/c they contain Phosphoric Acid and those rob our body of calcium… I’m just sayin’.

Mr. and Mrs. Bee: perhaps couples counseling to work through this issue? 😉
I know I should drink just water instead, but I love my caffeine-free Diet Coke poison!

I switched to the aspartames when I needed to lose weight like 6 years ago. Real soda was #1 to go! Unfortunately I like my sodas too much to give it up 100%.My FI is very give or take about it. He’ll drink whatever, whenever. He buys diet when i’m coming in town thogh
I just LIKE the taste. I had a real mountain dew a month ago and was crazy wired hyped up on sugar and it was TOO sweet. I don’t care for regular coke zero but i do love the cherry coke zero. Other than that, diet coke it is.
And 5 packets of Equal in my coffee every morning. I prefer splenda, but it’s twice as much!!!
