My FI and I actually met thru a community service fraternity during college! So, we spent 3+ years doing community service (and being involved with the executive aspects of the organization), but since haven't done anything for the community. =(
BUT, I have done a couple of runs and raised money for them, and he has been tagged as a possible bone marrow donor has followed up with the organization to confirm his match.
So while we do not actively do service to the community, we do have it in our hearts when it comes our way! =D I DO wish we were more involved, but we are just so lazy!!
We both volunteer occasionally, usually together. Most recently, we did a bayou cleanup here in Houston. We've also donated our photography, done walks, etc. Really just whatever interesting opportunities for helping come our way, we'll do.
We are both active volunteers in our professional society, ASME. That's actually how we met... I suppose we'll be indebted for life! We used to serve on separate committees... now we have at least one in common but also keep busy in our focus areas. It's great to have common ground but also some diversity!
I work at a museum and supervise volunteers- so sometimes the last thing I want to do in my own time is volunteer!
We are active in our church, however, and hope to do more volunteer work there!
i definitely volunteer more than he does, but i invite him to come along with me. i volunteer at least once a month with the national association of asian american professionals. i'm actually the community service co-chair for the boston chapter and we provide service activites for asian american professionals in the boston area. we do a lot of service for the asian community such as the boston chinatown neighborhood center, but we also do food pantries, habitat for humanity, and other non-profits that provide basic necessities for the community.
We both volunteer for various causes, usually disease related foundations... It's hard to find a balance between finding time to recharge and giving back to the community, so we are more sporadic about it these days than we have been in the past.

I am very active in my community and because it gives me such pleasure to serve, I am eager to share my experiences with my husband. While he will volunteer for nearly any activity I sign him up for, he doesn't usually go out of his way to get involved. Some of my favorite things to volunteer for are the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, together we raise about $1500 a year, and we are also members of our local Red Cross Disaster Action Team where we offer assistance to those who have been affected by fires or other disasters.
What sort of volunteer work do you and your partner do?Attachments
