FI has ALWAYS said (even before me) that his first dance song will be Come Rain or Come Shine, performed by Chet Baker. I don't particularly care for that version, thought I do like the song.
He proposed to me using a line from that song, he had a custom wine bottle label made and under our picture it says, "I'm gonna love you, like nobody's loved you, come rain or come shine..."
We always joked that our song was "Rock You Like a Hurricane", but it's become less of a joke as time goes on. So now we're being introduced to it during the reception! :-)
No, we really didn't have our song until a month before the wedding.
So we had a wedding music summit. I can remember the first song we danced to, but he couldn't (Wonderful Tonight- Clapton).
We came up with a list of our favorite happy songs, and stated our cases on each one. I won (with You and Me- DMB), he agreed as long as his got played sometime during the evening (Chasing Cars, Snowpatrol).
Ironically, during our honeymoon, we got serenated with Wonderful Tonight- completely randomly! Kind of a nice full circle.
@jduck84 - "California Stars" is one of my FAVORITE songs of all time. It doesn't hold any meaning for me and the boy, but I just love it anyway.
@SweetAdeline - at first I thought, "Hmm, I don't know that song," but then I realized I do - that's going to be an awesome and fun intro song!
@lemondrop - Aw, who serenaded you? That's such a romantic song.
@danadelphia - I think it's one of my all time favorites, too! It's so pretty.
Anyone else out there with a special song with their special someone?
Ours has been "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds since high school. We love Ben Folds anyway, but that song just holds a special meaning to us. It'll be our first dance song and I can't wait!
mrsawesome - I LOVE that song. It can bring me to tears! In a good way, though.
P.S. Yay for Madison brides! (Wisconsin '06!)
our song is "Like Red on A Rose" by Alan Jackson. every time we hear we instantly call each other and i say "i heard our song! i love you!"
@jduck me too! I love Madison, we didn't go to school here, but we're Badger fans at heart! =)
e and my FI song (well both of them) is the song from Juno "All I want is you". We were 19 an 20 years old when we had our son and I was pregnant when we first watched Juno and we were both like "thats us on there!!" And it just kinda became our song.
But our real radio playing song is "Lucky" by Jason Mraz. Its going to be our wedding song too!
guffee - aww, that is so cute!!
Kare - how perfect. :) I looked up the Juno song on youtube; I like it! I heart Jason Mraz too.
my man and I dont have a song so much as we have bands.
we see TONS of live music, namely Phish (my name sake)
so, alot of the music that means alot to us is music that most people never ever want to hear.
so we had a super tough time with songs for the wedding as we really couldnt use our "songs" from our "bands."
thats what i get for having alternative music tastes :(
Our song is "Tiny Dancer" by Elton John, and will definitely be our first dance song! it has a really special personal meaning for us.
not really... but "sexy love" neyo was a hot hit the summer we started dating... so whenever that pops up on the radio, we always wink and smile at each other ;)
Our song is "For You Blue" by the Beatles. The morning after we said "I love you" for the first time he sent me this song while I was at work and I just about died. The first lyrics are "Because you're sweet and lovely, girl, I love you." It will definitely be our first song even though its kind of a weird tempo so we have no idea how to dance to it, but it wouldn't be fitting to have any other song. At least its short :)
Oh my goodness we have a lot! We are both music lovers.
For the ceremony, when I walk down the aisle I think we're going to use the first verse and chorus of "Inevitable" by Anberlin.
For our first dance, it'll either be "I Do" or "Stolen" by Dashboard Confessional or "Lullaby" by Spill Canvas. Hard Decision!
And of course we will incorporate the rest of our songs into our reception.
Our songs are the ones that I mentioned above and:
"First Day of my Life" by Bright Eyes
"Island" by The Starting Line
"I Caught Fire" by The Used
"Connect the Dots" by Spill Canvas
"Laundry Room" by The Avett Brothers
"Tie the Rope" by The Format
"Thunder" by Boys Like Girls
"Stole My Heart" by Little and Ashley
"Kelsey" by Metro Station
"Stranger" and "Your Call" and "A Twist In My Story" by Secondhand Serenade
Great songs, everyone. Thanks for sharing. :)
@phishgirl - hey, I'm of the opinion that it is your special day and that if you and your guy love Phish and other bands, you have to at least play one song or band that you both really love!
@JennyPenny - so so cute!!
our song is "LOve Song" but he likes the 311 version where as I perfer the Cure lol
Our song is Amber by 311..... It would always play everytime we were togeather when we first started dating... On the radio , on tv, if we went to a bar... It just stuck out and always reminds us of when we first were togeather!
I guess our song is, 'Have I Told You Lately' by Rod Stewart. Is it really our song if it's more of my song to him??
Even though it's really not even remotely close to a love song, our song is In Keeping Secrets... by Coheed and Cambria. The first time we went to one of their concerts together he said I love you for the first time right after the line in the song "I love you too". So ever since then we've considered it our song. I doubt we'll really play it during the wedding though, not really a weddingish song in any way.
At Sweetlikecake; I LOVE 'Love song'!!!!! My favorite version is by 311 but the I really like the cure version too.
Actually that particular song was kinda mine and my ex's. But SHHHH! Thats not suppose to be known! tehe.
we don't have a song...I already know picking our first dance is going to be a challenge :(
@pec1216 - I'm jealous of your song! I LOVE that song. It makes me tear up just thinking of my FI. Our song however will more than likely be Rascal Flatts - "The Day Before You". We're both crazy Rascal Fans (we haven't missed a concert since we've been together) and I didn't want to choose the traditional "God Bless The Broken Road" so I sat down and listened to EVERY song and it hits closest to home. :)
Well our original song is "Big Butts".I know it sounds weird but it was the very first time we danced, so when ever we hear it we think of eachother.
Our "lovey dovey" song is "Come What May" in Moulin Rouge. That was our very first date and the song totally describes what we've been through.
I don't kno how we are going to incorporate the first song into the wedding (maybe when he's going in for the garter? I don't know). But we have come what may on our wedding bands & that's also our first dance song.
It's fun to see what everyone's songs are. Keep sharing!
@caborrett:I have happy memories around that song! :)
@marlew: It's never too late to pick a song you both love and make it "your song." Do you both have really different tastes in music?
@vfoster : hilarious! That would be a fun song for everyone to dance to, so maybe play it after another upbeat song when everyone's already out on the dance floor and having fun dancing?
@JulieLynn83 - Our song is also Amber by 311 for the exact same reason as yours!
He says that we don't have a song but in the car he used to sing to me "tu amor me hace bien" by Marc Anthony!
A completely inappropriate as it is, “Violent Love” as performed by Indigo Swing was kind of our first song.
He was dj-ing the night we were introduced again and played it to be funny. He wants it to be our last song (to be sure no one has any doubt what we are going to do that night) but it’s been nixed not only because it would offend pretty much anyone who wasn’t there that first night (so everyone but our officiant and our videographer)

If so, what is it, why is that your song, and are you using it in some special way for the wedding?
If we had a song, it would be "California Stars" by Woody Guthrie, performed by Billy Bragg & Wilco. It's a song he sent to me just before we started dating, and the lyrics are really beautiful. We're using part of it for the engraving on our wedding bands: dream a dream with you. It will also be on the playlist for the reception, of course. So, what's your song? :)
