I was just thinking about how people guess my fiancé as older than he is and they think I’m younger. A year or so ago, someone even asked if I was his daughter because they saw me at a distance….which is so creepy to me, even if they only saw me at a distance. We’re only a year and six weeks apart! But for some reason, people estimate him to be in his late twenties/thirties and me to be in high school or apparently younger at a distance.
He went to a bar with a couple of his friends who are around 30 and he was the only one who didn’t get carded…and he turned 21 six months ago.
I, on the other hand, was at work once and a kid who seemed to be in junior high or high school came up to me and asked if I was a freshman….in HIGH SCHOOL. I’m a senior in college. He would NOT believe I was old enough to be in college.
Now, I know I’m not that old, but I don’t think I look like I just got out of junior high. I was routinely mistaken for a student in junior high when I was there my senior year of high school to tutor students. It doesn’t help I’m 5’1″ haha.
Anyone else have experiences like this? I think it’s pretty funny, since I’m always convincing people I’m older than they think and he’s always convincing them he’s younger.

I’ve always been told I look much younger. When I was a senior in college, I was getting my hair done for a formal, and the woman asked me if I was going to my senior prom, lol.

My DH looks about right, I always still get carded and sometimes even backup. People are often shocked I am 29. I dont think I look younger, but people say I look more 22ish

My husband & I started dating at the ages of 15 & 17. I remember people thinking he was 23 at 17! I also remember people thinking I was 18 at 15. But now I would say we both look our ages. I may look a little younger because I am short, but not by much.

Is it narcissistic to say I think we both look younger than we are? I’ve been wondering lately what other people are thinking of us as we go furniture shopping and spend our free time at Lowe’s to look for window coverings and paint colors… we are both mid-20s but could probably both pass for 21. Put us in baggy jeans and hoodies, and we’d fit right in to our old college campus 🙂

@lefeymw: That can never be a bad thing! lol

I’m 8 months older than FI, and he doesn’t get carded half as much as I do. I still get carded to see R rated movies!
But then there’s the people that know what I do for a living that automatically assume I’m older.

Same here. People are always in disbelief that I’m 29 and my husband 33. We always get carded and then we got the ohmygosh I can’t believe you’re X. Are you sure????
I’m happy because I’ll be loving it when I’m much older! 😉

I am almost 24 and people think I look 16. My FI is 36, so we definitely get some looks sometimes, hahaha. He looks his age, cute grey hairs and all, haha.

@Gerbera: My DH is the same (well next month). I really dont think so, but apparently everyone else thinks so and those are the opinions that matter. I dont mind at all!

I love when people ask “are you sure”??? Um. Yes, I’m quite sure of my age and it says so on my ID! But TYVM for the compliment. 🙂

I feel like DH and I look right about our age. No one ever seems to question that we are in our mid-20s.

I added a poll for funsies 🙂

Last week a junior thought I was freshman and then said “well if it makes you feel better you don’t look like a freshman” than why did you ask?!
Generally, DH and I both look young for our ages. I get carded to going to past curfew movies (you have to be 18 to go to a 8p or later movie without a guardian, I’m 21) and people think DH is still in undergrad (he’s 25). So it’s not too far off (3-4 years seems average) and it keeps people from doing the ridiculous cradle robber idea, though we have friends we are 8 years apart so we just point to them.

I just turned 24 last week, and my sweetie is 22. But we keep getting mistaken for high-schoolers, haha. I am 5’1″ and petite, and have a young-looking face; he is tall, but skinny and has a young face, too.
I’d say that we both look about 17. We both get carded every time we go out to bars, buy alcohol, buy cigarettes~ he still likes to tease me because on one of our first dates, I got carded to get into the R-rated movie we were going to see.
It’s a little annoying having to whip our driver’s licenses out all the time, but it’s worth it to see the look on peoples’ faces when they find out how old we actually are. Messing with peoples’ minds is fun! lol
