DH and I met on Valentine’s day, so we celebrate that instead of the actual day. And by celebrate I mean I might get a flower (when we met he gave me a stem of carnations, which he likes to repeat each year), we’ll have some wine or champagne, maybe we’ll exchange cards. We’re not big fans of Valentine’s day itself, though.

We don’t do anything special. No gifts, no flowers, no going out but we use it as “us time” at home. We usually have a nice quiet dinner,no phones, no tv, no tech of any sort, send the kids out for the night and just focus on us. It’s nice to be low key about it. Although this year he’s kind of getting a gift, I was going to get it because it’s freaking cool anyway but it just happened to arrive in time for vday. It’s concert tickets to Styx and foreigner in KC. Those are his two fave bands and I saw on the news they were going on tour. Tickets went on sale last week and they just came in the mail yesterday. I also booked us for that weekend in a boutique hotel that I love there. So he’s kind of getting a mini-cation for vday but not by design.

My DH and I dont really celebrate it. Since the day we started dating I have always had fresh flowers in my/our place compliments of him so getting me flowers isn’t anything “special” for me and I dont really like chocolates. We basically treat it as another day and then storm the drug stores on the 15th for the candy thats on sale. 🙂

We go all out! January through March is really busy time for him (he’s been gone about five weeks this year already!) so having an excuse to get dressed up, go to the city and get a nice supper is great!

I got him new workout sweats and new casual shorts. I’m not sure what he’ll get me. I’m hoping flowers! I need something bright and cheery to hold me over during this dreadful winter!

@missamysmiles:  Yeah, we met online and set up a date. When you’re single you don’t realize what day Valentine’s day is, so I just said, “Let’s meet on Sunday!” He agreed, and then I realized what day I had chosen. I worried he would think I was kinda crazy planning a Valentine’s day meet up, but now we laugh about it. He was still a trooper bringing me carnations that day, though 🙂

We usually use it as an excuse to do something together, but we never go out to dinner or do gifts or other traditional / cheesy (IMO) V-day stuff.

I think we’re going x-c skiing after work – and then he’s making us a yummy dinner, we’re drinking a bunch of wine, and we’re watching Ghostbusters.

@missamysmiles:  Not us. We just don’t care about it. I don’t see the point of it.

We’re not anit V-day or boycotting it, but we don’t do anything to special.  To us things like our anniversary are more special than a holiday like this.  Plus everything is so crowded and expensive.  We recognize that it exists, and spend it together, but stick to something low key.  Last year we got mexican food for dinner and went to see the new Die Hard.  I think this year might be BBQ and redbox rentals.  We’ll see.

Not really. My sister and I always get each other silly over the top gifts (we started this as children).. but I haven’t really done much in any of my relationships.

My husband and I usually go for burgers… any excuse for burgers LOL.

I find it silly to spend marked-up prices and deal with crowds. We’d much rather have a romantic/pricey dinner any other night of the year.

As a kid, I had fun exchanging valentine’s day cards with everyone. It was kind of like a popularity contest and an excuse to get lots of candy.

@missamysmiles:  I was proposed to on Valentines Day, but I honestly didn’t expect it.  So because its kind of special, we always make a point to at least go out and have a good time!  Which we’ll be doing this Friday with friends at dinner!
