Do you consider you job to be stressful? Yes/No? What do you do?

Just curious. I am currently leaving a job I considered to be uber stressful job (ie. thinking about job 24/7, even during sex... lol!) to take a less stressful job in order to improve my quality of life.

    @MissShork:

What is this stressful job you have?

I am a female in the construction industry, so yes it can be stressful, but also very rewarding, so it's worth it.

I'm a school psychologist, definitely a stressful job.  There's a lot of pressure put on us by parents and teachers and I'm part of my school's crisis team so that's even more added on.

I have never done it before and I will be paving the way in my new job (meaning no one has done it before) so I expect it to be high stress and high reward. Is a brand manager.

I've been working in property management, which is a difficult industry because you are dealing with peoples homes and lives, but trying to run it as a business. Definitely not for me (i"m a softy), but my main stress came from my managers who are immature b****S, who gossip and cut down everyone.

Almost zero stress. I run a pet care company.

Animals don't complain, and my "office" is the great Canadian wilderness. I walk between 10-20 dogs per day, off leash...in the woods and parks.

I rarely deal with the humans because they are never home.

I'm on my 15th year and have no plans to quit.

I'm an IT Admin/Director and it can be really high stress. IT is a 24/7 field. I'm always on call and like you said, think about work almost all of the time. I dream about it most nights. I do work in the legal industry which is notoriously high stress and adds another level to the 24/7 field aspect.

@MissShork: I worked in the property management/real estate industry for several years. VERY high stress. Can't even begin to tell you the death threats (verbal and written) I've received. One guy even came to my office with an axe. After that incident, I no longer handled foreclosures/evictions.

To everyone who is responding with high stress jobs, do you actually like your jobs?

Would you trade your work for something less stressful if given the option?

I work at a television station.  People are stressed all the time there, but I really don't get stressed out anymore.  I've been there over 8 years, so I just go with the flow and get things done without freaking myself out!

@Diet Coke: Omg! i have never dealt with anything like that. (but I don't park my job on property in fear of getting keyed. The personal threats just became too much for me)

I'm a paralegal for a Social Security Disability firm.  I consider it stressful at times due to deadlines and knowing that what I write in one of our clients appeals could either make them a lot of money or delay them from getting a lot of money. Also, the clients can be a bit, demanding.. But definitely not the most stressful job there is.

I work retail in a bookstore and it is INCREDIBLY stressful. People are so incredibly rude about books, and I find that as more idiots like Glenn Beck and his ilk produce books, the more idiots we get in the store, ready to start fights. I spend a good portion of my day, trying to get the buyers of conservative propaganda to shut up and stop attacking me for working in a book store and having an education. Oh, and stop accusing me of hiding the conservative books. And, yes, these things REALLY happen.

Customers leave piles everywhere. they jam books on top of books, with no regard to damage. they pull books off the shelves and leave them sitting on the floor. They wait until the very last minute to get up to leave the store, and leave a mess. I've had customers pull every magazine from a section of the stand, and then leave them stacked on a table. I had a 14 year old girl ask me if iCarly counted as a classic book. Throwing temper tantrums because a book isn't in stock. Demanding free shipping because they want to use their coupon NOW. Demanding a new ereader because it doesn't charge fast enough to suit them.

I could go on for days.

I work in a hospital doing x-ray and CT... it can be stressful, but I enjoy it. The thing that's more stressful for me is my shift. I'm on thirds and I HATE it.

@SandyDollHair: so far you are the only one saying you don't have a stressful job. Definitely a sweet job though!

I suppose the tough thing about a question like this is that everyone defines stress very differently. I always love hearing about the different jobs people have.

I do not have a stressfull job. I'm a bilingual customer service rep for a supplements company. I take phone orders, fax and e-mail orders from customers all day. I do invoicing, credits, returns. I speak French with my customers from Montreal and I absolutely love it! I think the most stressfull part could be when customers call in to place complaints about the product or complain about the service. Other than that I really can't complain, I'm on the Bee ALL DAY!!! hehehe

I'm a scientist. It is superstressful and I'm always thinking about work. I often spend all night dreaming I'm doing experiments and I usually wake up before I find out if they worked or not. Ugh. I do love what I do, though!

Yessssss lol  I'm an oncology nurse, and oftentimes I find that I'm not only treating the patient, but also their family members/loved ones.  VERY stressful, VERY emotional.  I love the patients, I love the people I work with, but I am looking for something in my field that's a little less stressful.  I come home exhausted every night, and I'm useless on my days off as I'm trying to recover from the week of hell I went through lol.  There's never an easy shift/easy day where I work.

@couawilou:  I do pretty much the same as you, except I speak Japanese instead of French, and I work for a telecom company.  I get stressed sometimes, but for the most part, it's pretty relaxed.  I'm okay with it.

I'm a scientist and grad student.  The stress levels vary depending on what point I am in the research.   I used to work in the ER at a trauma center so I'm no stranger to stress.  When I'm stressed I also tend to have nightmares about it like some Bees mentioned.

I work as a policy and program analyst for the provincial DOJ.  It is very stressful, because I support both the Minister's office and the regions, but at least the hours are sane.  I left private practice because of the crazy work hours, so being home for supper is a nice change :)

I'm a teacher and  my job is stressful!  Even when I go home at night it doesn't leave me.  I'll still be finishing lesson plans or grading papers.  But I absolutely love my job, getting the summer off and weeks off in between (for holidays) is also a nice perk! :)

I work in insurance and I would say 90% of the time the job itself is not stressful at all. The thing that does get stressful is working in a competitive corporate environment - not everyone is nice and there are a ton of annoying politics. It at least comes with a high salary and tons of perks, so I can't complain. And I like my boss a lot which makes any downside to the job a lot less negative.

I'm an assistant conference planner at a high ranking conference center/business school.  The actual job is pretty low stress and I really enjoy it, it's just when clients are being icky that things get upsetting.  Plus I just started a couple months ago so not being 100% confident in myself with my job probably adds a little bit of stress.  However, it's a 9-5 Monday through Friday thing, holidays off and PTO and benefits.  Love it, especially after working crazy hours in a restaurant for four years beforehand!

Nah, wouldn't call it stressful. I enjoy it too much :)

I work as a research assistant for a psychology clinic dealing with anxiety patients... After graduate school I'll work in/eventually have my own lab researching chronic pain patients. I get to talk to patients, hear their stories, and still do the research that I love. It's way more exciting for me than it is stressful :)

ETA: I'm one of those people that thrive on deadlines, or else I think my job would be stressful... Finishing grant writing or research proposals or IRB submissions gets me going, not bogs me down. Thank goodness.
