I do my own, but I don’t do much with them. I keep them long and shape them, but I don’t wear nail polish except for special occasions.
I do my own, but only because I’m a cheapskate. I’m planning on getting them professional done for the month prior to the wedding, though, so that they grow out and stay long. My nails are prone to breaking, so they’re usually pretty short, but the first time I went for a shellac manicure they lasted for three weeks.
I go to a salon because I am awful at doing my nails!
I do my own. It’s a bit of a hobby for me, I like to play around with nail art, the kind of ideas and tutorials you see on pinterest. At this point I have a lot of practice and also have gotten some higher end polishes and tools, so I can do a pretty good job on my own.
@weddingbee098: I do my own! But that’s because I’ve never been very happy with salon manis I’ve gotten.. They always file my nails slightly crooked, or they start chipping/peeling too quickly. I didn’t use to be very good at it, but I’m a lot better now and people ask me all the time if they’re gel (theyre not) and if I get them done because they usually look pretty good!
This thing changed my nail painting life, btw:
I had French gels forever, but took them off after our wedding last year. I love painting my nails- I don’t think I’ll ever get the gels or any manicure ever again! Fun to do myself:)
I do my own–But I haven’t done them since the wedding!
Salon. Since spilling polish on a white shag rug.. and then a newer black and white rug, I’m no longer allowed nail polish in the house.
No complaints. I like having a fresh shellac mani done every 2 weeks.
I do my own. About every 3 days. I play around a lot and love doing designs
I always do my own, and not to toot my own horn, but they always look fabulous! I recently bought Gelous at Sally Beauty, and it’s awesome! My polish lasts 1-2 weeks with no chips.. it’s great and only $6! I highly recommend it! (it’s the poor man’s version of a shellac manicure)
This year I am trying to save money and so I started doing at home gel manis. So I voted “I do my own”
@KC-2722: ahahhaa. I accidentally left a nail glue bottle slightly unscrewed on our coffee table.. and it got knocked over and glued to the table. WHOOPS. FH had to pry it off and the table is pretty messed up now!
@littlemisst08: get it! It is sent from nail heaven, for real. I usually dip the tip in a little bit of extra nail polish remover for when I use darker polish that stains my fingers worse.
I think you need a “both”. Sometimes I’ll just do my own if they’re really bad and I can’t wait another day, or if I want a quick color change. And other times I’ll go to the salon as I LOVE getting manis and pettis.
