I’m curious, I’m more comfortable driving barefoot. When I drive with shoes on it feel weird and I hate that I can’t feel the pedals with my toes, and I feel like I can never really tell how much pressure I put on the pedals either.
So POLL time! Which do you feel more comfortable with, shoes or barefoot?
(PS – It’s not illegal to drive barefoot in my state in Australia. I think I’ve read that it may be in other countries and even states here.)

I drive wearing my shoes unless I have on 6″ heels or something.

Shoes, always. Typically flip flops. My mum always tells me I shoiuld take flip flops off and go barefoot, but I never do. I’ve never felt unsafe that way. Just personal preference. I know a lot of people who drive in regular shoes but go barefoot if they are in heels or flipflops.

I can do either. If it’s really hot I’ll slip my shoes off and drive barefoot, but it’s a really 50/50 thing for me. I can do either.

Driving barefoot is like a secret guilty pleasure of mine. Don’t do it hardly ever, but when I do it makes me a little happier.

It’s illegal in lots of places to drive barefoot.

@Horseradish: Is it really? I thought it was just a myth, or at least outdated laws, but never really checked.
I don’t like it. I’ve done it quickly just to move cars around. I would probably pick barefoot over a stileto heel, but I usually throw flips flops or flats when it’s cold for those purposes. lol When it’s really cold I’ve been known just to check the right shoe.

I take off my shoes to drive when I’m wearing heels or flip-flops. I read earlier about someone keeping flip-flops in their car to switch. I don’t get it though…I don’t like how flip flops don’t stick to my feet and can get stuck in weird angles.

@krayzay87: Barefoot all the way for me – I learnt that way and have not looked back. I mentioned in another thread that I could probably drive an automatic car with shoes (if I really, really had to) but not with a manual, as I reckon I can “feel” the car better without shoes.
I never understood the “risk of slipping” with bare feet, as some others have mentioned elsewhere. I always think that because feet are soft and toes are “grippy” that they are way safer than driving with shoes (i.e. shoes generally have a flat, smooth and hard surface… more prone to slipping).
I also think driving with thongs on is pretty dangerous! Do you do this/have you ever?

Always shoes! When I was learning to drive my mom’s friend was taking me out and we passed an intersection. She told me she turned to look at her daughter at that intersection years back and she got into a horrible car accident. She told me to always wear shoes because she got a nasty foot injury when she did slam on the brakes.
Fear put into me.
