I'm honest and just say I've been busy, I'm sorry, and I forgot. Students should be understanding that you're busy. If you don't answer emails right away people stop expecting it.
I actually am kind of OCD about my email, and I'm constantly checking it - so I always reply really quickly! If I ever got behind and took a while to respond, I'd totally lie, though!
I didn't respond to my cousin once for 2 months... (he lives internationally). I later told him it's because it's hard for me to write in his language, which is true, so I put off writing the e-mail until I had some time to really focus, and then I kind of forgot about it...
I do sometimes forget to email people back but Im usually pretty honest about it. I just tell them I have had a lot of stuff going on and most people are usually pretty cool about it. The one time I did use that excuse it was because it really happnened...a bill went straight to my junk mail and I never got it...
I check my email all the time so it doesn't really happen. I only delete emails from stores/spam that my spam blocker didn't catch.
im also super OCD about my mail - it comes right to the phone... so yeah if i dont respond to an email you sent me, theres a reason.
For the record, I am GREAT at reading email. I just stink at replying to it!
More or less, if I don't do it immediately, it won't ever happen. :/
Hmmm, nope. I usually say that I got it but have been really busy and meaning to reply. Not necessarily untrue... it happens more with phone calls than emails, though. I am far more likely to reply to an email! So I guess that's why the spam filter wouldn't work for me haha.
I think that my friends just know that I am forgetful lol Sometimes I'll read something and I honestly just forget about it and don't remember until they are like "HELLO! ANSWER MY E-MAIL!"
I do it on occasion but not with work related stuff but def with school stuff or wedding vendors that wont leave me alone.
Stuff actually DOES get sucked into my junk folder by the spam filter way too often. When Im too busy, or dont have the energy/effort to reply right away, I`m upfront about it--not rudely though!

mail getting stuck in your spam filter?
I'll admit, I've done this at times, with former students who email me. I taught English here (in China) for a while, and while I adore all of my former students (well, most of them...), there are times when the relationships feel a little TOO one-sided; all give and no take! So sometimes when they email me, I can't muster the energy to respond the right way, and don't respond at all. When they text me later to ask if I got it, I inevitably say that it got caught in my spam filter.
It's a lie, but I feel like it's better than telling them, "Oh yeah, I got it, I just didn't want to give you the time of day" hehe. Guess that's not a great excuse.
When vendors tell me one of my emails randomly gets sent to their spam (and that's why it took them so long to respond), it kind of makes me wonder if they're telling the truth or not.
Ironically, I'd rather just hear, "I've been really overwhelmed" than suspect a lie.
Thoughts?
