I saw the word hangry in a magazine one time. It even gave the little fake description of what it meant lol. I thought it was cute so I cut it out and put in on my fridge. Totally fits me.
I'm at lunch right now, and I got to thinking, how many people get "hangry"? I mean, I know it sucks to be about to go to lunch, and then get delayed for some reason. Depending on the day, the results could be catastrophic. :P
Anyone else? Comments?
Yes! I get "hangry" a lot, to the point where FI sometimes will say (when I'm upset about something) "do you need to eat?" lol - I will have to introduce hangry to his vocabulary.
Yup. I ger very hangry! FI always me make pack a snack now, saves us a lot of trouble, lol!
Depends. I hate being hungry and having to wait at a restaurant. Grrrrr.....
"Hangry" is going to describe me for the next 4 months while I am dieting to get in wedding shape!!!!!! Ughhh I hate being hungry and not being able to eat what I really want!
I was initially misreading this as "Hawngray", meaning super-duper-uber hungry, but then I realized it was hungry+angry.
I only get hangry when I am hawngray and someone (usually my mom) tries to guilt me away from eating to do something else, so it doesn't happen all that often.
This just reminds me of that scene in The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton, when he says, "You wouldn't like me when I'm hungry," and the bad guys start laughing at him.
I get whiny, so I guess my answer is yes!
I get so hangry! Also, my body really doesn't like it if I don't eat on schedule so I start feeling faint and dizzy which sucks!
YES! And I ALWAYS forget that it will happen to me, so I pay no attention to scheduling when I'll have a lunch break or something and then become an fire-breathing monster. When we are together FI goes on what he calls "blood sugar watch" in the middle of the day and makes sure I eat so that I don't morph into a major you-know-what. It's crazy the effect an empty stomach can have on your mood!
hunger causes migraines, so of course i get angry if i know i'm going to have pain! i have to eat lots during the day, but at least i have a good excuse!
I get super "hangry" when I haven't eaten! Thank god my hubs understands if it's been a while since I've eaten and I'm acting crabby that's why!
Haha, that term is great! Yes, I get hangry all the time, it drives FI nuts! I try not to get mad, but I just can't help it.
I definately get hangry... But mostly if I wait too long after I get hungry to eat, I get a stomach ache, then I'm just miserable. You definately don't want to keep me from eating! haha
@ futuredrbrawn - oh I HATE trying to lose weight & having to work out a lot & feel like you get no reward because you're eating all healthy food. I've been on that kind of a deal for several weeks now, and last night I just HAD to have a burger cuz I was about to LOSE IT.
@ surkim - "hawngray" LOL. I'm "hawngray"!
@ MissAsB - I know what you mean about the body reacting in certain ways. I get a SPLITTING headache if I'm hungry and go too long without food.
@ ginandtonic - I definately think it's a lot to do with the blood sugar. My mood is extremely affected as well. I've never been diagnosed hypoglycemic but I've wondered...
Yes, and I must use this word from now on!
I'm very scheduled most of the time, and I eat smaller meals, so if I skip one for whatever reason I get a bit... irritated. Haha.
Yes! Hangry. I like that word. I'll use it next chance I get. :)
Best. Word. EVER. ;) yes, I get hangry. Especially on weekend mornings if we are not up and out early. Luckily H has learned to make/get me breakfast to avoid my hanger. :)
Ha! I definitely get hangry. I think it is worse for me in the summer because then I am hot and hangry. Before pregnancy, if I was hungry I then got a headache which then triggered my "hangryness" but it doesn't do that anymore.
Oh yeah, I can get extremely grumpy!
"Hangry" reminds me of this drawing from Deviantart. It's the image that pops into my head whenever I don't have time to eat lunch at college, haha.
Great work - am totally using it now! And to answer - yes I get incredibly hangry!! People know when I'm hungry b/c of how my mood changes. My FI can go way longer without eating than me so I'm always the one demanding we stop for food. ;-)
ah, yes totally! if I tell this word to FI he won't stop using it. As it is I always try to carry "emergency food" to avoid hangry moments.... :)
Oh yes! I am very familiar with being hangry and a lot of my family and friends get hangry too. Like other bees, I carry snacks. At one point it got so bad that my mom, sister and I implemented a rule that we can't go for long excursions/shopping unless we eat first. Shopping is the worst for some reason. You get under those hot lights in Old Navy and the next thing you know you've turned into the "Low Blood Sugar Avenger."
@ everyone - So, it sounds like we all have "hanger" issues to some extent LOL!
I wonder why we never really hear about or experience MEN getting hangry...
Hmm... innnnteresting..
I am very familiar with "hangry" - when I start getting crabby, my mom says it's time to "feed the beast".
Oh yeah, like others, I have major “hanger” issues. FH says he can tell when I reach “the point of hanger” – usually out of nowhere he will suddenly, very sweetly ask if I would like to go grab a bite to eat LOL
The key for me is keeping plenty of snacks around. I keep snacks at work in a drawer (honestly, I have a large drawer solely dedicated to snacks lol), and some sort of crunchy snack like celery sticks or carrots in my work fridge.
@okqueenbee, my BF gets hangry. I think it's more "acceptable" in women, because we're known for "starving" and "dieting" and being generally crabby with respect for food, you know?
With men, it's "i'm hungry, MUST EAT", as opposed to "I'm a crabby woman because I haven't eaten in three weeks".
Oh yeah! FI and I have both been using this term for most of our relationship! We both get hangry due to low blood sugar and it makes for some cranky arguments :)
Ohhh, YES! I get horribly hangry! My FI always knows when it's about time for a meal though!
Oh my gosh this describes me to a T! When I get cranky usually FI looks at me and says "Honey, when was the last time you ate?" and then I sheepishly look at him and admit not for a few hours. A lot of our arguments spawn from him coming home late from work and me not having the common sense to eat a snack knowing he's going to be late. Instead he'll open the door to my hangry wrath and quickly grab some cheese to stuff in my mouth before I can berate him TOO much! Poor guy, but at least he's learned now ;)
No, but I am stubborn- if I want something and can't get it I just won't eat.
My SO hates when I do this.
I've never heard of Hangry before, I generally use the word "Fungry" when I'm starving... I'll let you guess what that means :D
Yes! My FI and I actually have to make it a rule when we're hungry that we will not talk about anything controversial until we eat, simply because we used to get in arguments for no reason other than being hungry!
I think EVERYONE gets angry when they're hungry but, unfortunately, most people aren't aware of it. I've noticed, with both my family and my FI's, everyone will be in crummy moods, have a meal, and then suddenly everything's great! Coincidence? I think not!
hahah! I was at a fashion shoot one time and all my models kept using that word "HANGRY" and thought it was just a term they made up.
YES! I get hangry. I'm almost positive that being a bridezilla derives from this term! A combination of lack of sleep and having starved yourself all week to fit into your dress.
Ha, my fiance gets "hangry" all the time. When he's getting irritable, I always ask when the last time he ate was, and inevitably it will have been many hours before.
@accorn, I'm known for not eating when I can't have exactly what I want, or if I'm hungry and don't know what I want. I'll worry about it when I want something, I say.
People get grumpy with me, because they've eaten like seven meals, and I'm still holding out for pie, or still can't decide what I want. Then I get grumpy with them, because they won't eat without me eating, and really, I don't want x, y, or z, so I'll just wait until I want q, r, or s, or something, and now I feel bad that they know what they want, but I have no clue, or perhaps I don't even like what it is they want, and would rather wait.
Yes. The worst. I think I've hit people before, too, because of it. I also get violently ill (really naueseous, shaking to near-passing-out, sweaty palms, headaches, dizzy).
That's me, I get really cranky if I'm hungry and can't eat. I spent a few hours on my wedding day pretty crabby til hubs shoved some food in me lol
