I recently sized my platinum engagement ring down about a half size because I had lost a little weight since we got engaged. I had my ring appraised and insured when I got it. Do I need to have it appraised again because there is less metal in it? Platinum is so expensive (more than twice the price of the gold rings we looked at) that I was wondering if it would make a difference in the value.
I’m thinking it might be smart to wait until I have my wedding band and get both rings appraised together.
Any thoughts? Did anyone else get another appraisal after sizing?

I (personally) wouldn’t get it reappraised. Unless the weight is going to make a big difference in the amount you pay for insurance, what good would there be in paying for another appraisal.
The only other reason would be to ensure your stone wasn’t swapped out. If you used a jeweller you trust, that shouldn’t be an issue either. I have never had a reappraisal done, unless the stone was reset in a different setting. In that case, the insurance company would want a new appraisal.
Edited because I need another coffee, hence typo’s. 🙂

I had mine appaised before I had it sized down. Just like you, I lost weight and the ring was falling off.
What I learned is, the value stays the same as long as you don’t take any diamonds off of it. The metal doesn’t affect the value of the appraisal all that much if at all.
Besides, you only went down half a side, that’s nothing. I wouldn’t waste my time redoing the whole thing….
