My famiy is all fairly pale and freckly, and my parents and grandparents have a history of pre-cancerous growths, so I go to the Dermatologiest every 2 years to get my skin checked.
I went a week ago and my Dr. pointed out the smallest, most harmless looking freckle on my foot and said it looked suspicious and she wanted to remove it.
I got the results back from the lab it turns out it was a very dangerous type of growth that almost 100% turns into cancer if left unchecked.
I feel beyond grateful!! I never would have thought twice about it if I hadn’t have been checked.
Now I have 5 stitches in my foot and I’m hobbling around like an idiot, but I’m a lucky idiot!
Do you go for routine check-ups with the Dermatologist?

I do, like you pale skinned and freckled and my bosses dad died from unchecked melanoma so he stresses the importance to all of us!

Bump – because I think it’s an important PSA and I want to hear other stories!!

yes, once a year, or if I find something suspicious before that.
Had a basal cell removed from my forehead 5 years ago (MOHS surgery) and it is not a pleasant experience.

I never have. My SIL does yearly because she has had questionable spots removed.

I go once a year to get checked. I’m super pale with some funny shaped moles that need to be monitored. I’ve already had one removed back in high school. I beat cancer once too so anything I can do to prevent it, I’ll do.

I don’t but my DH has been told to go in twice a year. He’s gone once in the past 10 years because he’s afraid of being told that he’s got cancer.
Most men in his family have a gazillion moles of different sizes and shapes on their bodies.
