This thread is inspired by the "stuff animal/blanket" & "first word" threads :)
I still enjoy watching my Shirley Temple films. This past weekend I also watched "A Little Princess" & "The Secret Garden". I RARELY break these movies out, but it was just one of those weekends.
What are your favorite kids movies?
I watched a lot of Shirley Temple movies b/c my grandmother loved them. I also like The Secret Garden.
However, I have to say my favorite children's movies are Studio Ghibli--Hayou Miyazaki. I LOVE Kiki's Delivery Service.
Im a sucker for a good cartoon. I love the older Disney movies (Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin) and I recently saw Princess and the Frog and loved that too. Haha. Also, movies like Fern Gully, Thumbelina, The Last Unicorn, Little Nemo. Ah! I'm in the process of building up my collection of these kinds of movies, because I'd rather my future kids watch them than some of the crap that's on TV now.
@zippylef: OMG you mentioned fern gully.
love. that. movie.
@beekiss2: Sprirted Away and Howl's Moving Castle tie for my favorite Miyazaki. I completely forgot to add them into my "awesome cartoon" list.
My all time favorite is Disney's Robin Hood, with the foxes! I watched my VHS so much as a kid that I had to buy another copy because I wore out the film. While I now have the DVD version, I still love watching it now and again!!
Loved Fern Gully, Land Before Time and the Lion King as a kid lol. I also watched the Shirley Temple movies too :)
For newer "kids" movies I love Ice Age and Wall-E...too cute!
Anything with a horse in it, I loved. Misty of Chincoteague, National Velvet, the Black Stallion...
I was also a huge Babysitter's Club fan, so when the movie came out you can bet I saw it. A few times. Anyone remember the short-lived TV series as well?
@beekiss2: I love Miyazaki films! I love "My Neighbor Totoro", "Howl's Moving Castle and "Spirited Away".
But my favorite childrens film would have to be Toy Story.
I LOVE all of the classic Disney movies (and I'm buying all of them on DVD/Blue-ray as they come "out of the Disney vault" so my future kids can enjoy them too). I also really liked Homeward Bound and the original Land Before Time.
My sisters and I loved Totoro and Disney! Apparently I watched the 1961 Babes in Toyland obsessively too. I think I was in love with Tom. Actually, now that I think about it, my fiance looks a lot like him... :O
@lilyfaith: LOVED the Babysitter's Club!
@CorgiTales: Hocus Pocus was one of my favorites too!
Older movies include: The Little Mermaid, Fly Away Home, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and The Worst Witch.
My new favorite kids movie is Up. I cried and I laughed and I LOVED it.
Oh I watch kids movies constantly. They're just my favorite kind of movie! All the Rescuers movies, any Disney movie (Sleeping Beauty and Robin Hood and The Fox and the Hound being favorites). I'm in the animation industry so it's kind of an obsession. I also watched Hocus Pocus probably 150 times when it came out on VHS, I must have drove my mom nuts! If you have Netflix you should watch Secret of Kells, its beautiful animation and stylization!
Oh and one last one, that can never be forgotten: Drop Dead Fred!
@CorgiTales- Those are 2 of my favorites! I usually watch Hocus Pocus around Halloween but we'll be on our honeymoon so I might have to put it in tonight when I get home from work!
Some of my favorites are: The Little Mermaid, Summer Magic, the original Parent Trap, Moonspinners, The Trouble with Angels (I LOVED Hayley Mills when I was younger...still do!)
@arenyth: My sister and I had the "Fox and the Hound" on VHS and we seriously wore that tape out. I think we watched that movie daily for like a year.
@arenyth: Oh. My. God. Drop Dead Fred...I used to LOOOVE that movie when I was younger.
You ladies are so fun! I, of course, love all the Disney movies too...The Lion King, The Jungle Book, Beauty & The Beast, etc.
One of my other favs is "The Sandlot".
Fly Away Home! I forgot about that movie, but totally loved it!
@zippylef: I love the Last Unicorn! Great movie!!
Labyrinth, Flight of the Navigator and An American Tail are my all time favorites.
That's so funny, I watched Secret Garden when I stayed home from work last week :)
Little Princess is a movie I like to watch around the holidays, same with Little Women. Otherwise I can sit through a Disney movie any time, but my go-to was always Beauty and the Beast.
@rachaelrobin: The Last Unicorn is my sister's favorite movie. I actually got her the special anniversary DVD two years ago for her birthday.
@beekiss2: Nice present! I'm going to need to check that one out.
Beauty and the Beast is my all time favorite. However any and everything Shirley Temple also works for me.
@zippylef: @LetsGoPens: I do like Spirited Away and Howl's, also! I think I love Kiki's Delivery Service since it was the first film of his that I saw.
@crebre80: Do you remember Dora's Dunkin Donuts?? No one else seems to remember this.
@lilyfaith: I think I have seen The Baby Sitters Club movie a milllllllions times (13!! YOU'RE ONLY THIIIIRRRTEEEN???). My gosh, that was a favorite!
My sisters and I watched The Lion King, A Little Princess, and Aladdin all the time. My Dad loved the Disney movie "The Kid", so we watched that one a lot, too (but I was a little older by the time that came out). I actually can't wait to have kids to get to watch all these movies again!
LABYRINTH!! Classic!! and of course the classic Disneys--Sleeping Beauty, Little Mermaid, Lion King, Robin Hood
I'm probably going to date myself with a few of these...
Of course, Fern Gully is WAY up there, The Goonies, The Princess Bride...those are a few of the classics. Here's where it gets weird (and dated).
My dad got us into Jim Henson movies so I LOVE The Dark Crystal, there was this movie called Willow that I adore as well. Flight of the Navigator - if anybody remembers this one or has it on DVD PLEASE TELL ME, lol. There was also this movie called Batteries Not Included that was awesome, it was about old people and these little tiny robots from space, they were so cute!!!!
Courtbu17 I am going to date myself too!!
I love Goonies!
@courtbu17: We watched Willow a lot too.
I also forgot a major one: Brave Little Toaster!
I completely forgot to add....SHORT CIRCUT and SHORT CIRCUT 2!!!!
"#5 is alive"
Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid are my 2 most favorite Disney movies, I still know all the songs by heart!
My brother and I loved to watch Labyrinth, we probably watched it every day after school for at least 6 months.
Also loved the Goonies and Willow (Val Kilmer was an early crush!)
Oh, and Honey, I Shrunk The Kids (thought it would be cool to be so tiny!)
Beauty and the beast!!!! My alll time FAV! My wedding dress HAD to look like Bells! I know its sad.
But up there on my list is Coraline and Ratatouille!! Love those ones tooo!!
@courtbu17: Um love the Dark Crystal and batteries not included. And yes, I own the Flight of the Navigator on DVD.
Hah this is a great list of movies, makes me wish I could still have sleepovers and marathon all of these!!
Swan Princess. It's hard to be beat John Cleese as a French frog!
I love football games in state because then my bus always watches our old favorites (everything from the Sandlot to Lion King)
