My partner and I close on our new house tomorrow! Woo-hoo!
One of the things we’d like to do before fall/winter is get a hot tub. It’s something we’ve always wanted and now we finally have the right set-up for it. Neither of us have ever had a hot tub before so we are going to a pool centre this weekend to check some out.
In the meantime, if you have a hot tub:
- What brand is it? Would you recommend it?
- Are there any brands you would NOT recommend?
- How often do you use it and how much additional cost is it each month?
- Is it a lot of maintenance?

Ohhhh we had a hot tub growing up and it was awesome!! FI and I are def considering one too!
I have no idea about cost, but when my parents has theirs, we used it all the time (after skiing, etc). Theirs was indoor, but we would get an outdoor one.
I don’t think they’re a ton of intensive work, but you do have to test the water (similar to a pool) and care for it.
If we didn’t have so much onthe go financially, I would absolutely have one now!

We have an in-ground hot tub, so I don’t know about brands, but I use it ALL THE TIME!! It costs to warm up the water, but it is definitely worth it. I love to go out there at the end of the workweek and just sit for hours with wine and a book…hmm maybe I’ll do that tonight.

whoa_its_ash: I didn’t even know there was such a thing as an in-ground hot tub! I will definitely look into that option so it isn’t so much of an eye sore.
MrsMcQN: We would use it constantly too! We’ve had a rough year (not in terms of each other), so it will be nice to treat ourselves 🙂 I assumed hot tubs were about $5,000 but HGTV tells me I should prepare to spend $7,000 to $9,000 on a “good one” (and that’s before tax). If only they had provided a list of “good” brands!

somethingblue04: maybe you should apply for an HGTV show and get them to put one in for you lol.

MrsMcQN: LOL! I told my partner I want to be on, “Leave it to Bryan.” I think he was offended because he is also in the business and doesn’t think he needs any help. Maaaaaaybe I just like Bryan…or I want a discount on my renos…one of those two, maybe both.

We bought a hot tub this year. Bullfrog brand. I was adamant that I wanted something with alot of jets to be more a therapeutic, personal thang instead of a party spot.
Selling points for me on the brand is that they are plumbed differently – each seating area has plumbing that comes to one central point, and the “jetpacks” that make up the seat disperse the water to the jets. Less tubes and hoses to leak ultimately. And those jetpacks are interchangeable – you can order them with differing types of jets and configurations. Some packs focus on neck, some on lower back. Differing types of jets and intensities.
This brand does not need a strictly level surface for its install either.
Oh and the best part? I got an RX from the doctor for it, and now the cost of the spa and the wiring, etc. are tax deductible as durable medical equipment I am told.
