We always did too and I did it also with my son. Now, all the boys are older so most of their gifts consist of gift cards.
@tksjewelry: i personally think its a good way to go about it. it keeps the ammount of stuff lying around down. my FSIL does the bunch of relativly small stuff for her daughters and they actually get presented out. her daughter will say i need to stop i just want ot play with what i have already. it takes usually 3 days for her 2 kinds to open all of their presents and they just get so overwhelmed
We do that too! But with having 2 We are doing 1 really big gift to share! We are getting them a princess play house! Its hiding in the back of the garage lol...
@aprose: My mom and I also left one or two small gifts unwrapped so the kids would have something to play with for a little while and give them/us some extra time to sleep. I know I was up at the crack of dawn as was my son, so that extra half hour or hour makes a huge difference.
@tksjewelry: oh yeah. for a while we were living with my nieces and FSIL and omg the christmas morning crazies!
Apparently I've passed on my love for Twilight to my daughter, lol, because now she's always asking if we can watch "Edward" on tv. So her grandparents are getting her this for Christmas:

And Santa is bringing her this (which I can't wait to play with, too!):

@AudzinLuv: I remember the year I got my doll house. My folks had it made for me because I wanted it barbie size and the dream house was way out of their budget. I still have it til this day, now I use it as a bookshelf.
We're doing this but it sort of feels like he won't get to open enough on christmas morning :-/ I always had about 10 presents to open even if most of them were small, I got excited just to unwrap them. My mom would wrap our stocking gifts too (most of the time it was shaving cream, or face wash lol).
We have a total of 5 gifts. His big gift is a powerwheels truck which wasn't exactly cheap, but he's told us and santa that all he wants is a truck so...I hope he won't be disappointed.

both FI and myself grew up in homes where you got some small presents and one bigger "special" present for christmas. most years it was from santa until i got older then it came from mom and dad. this year i am getting a rocking horse for our little guy to be his special present from santa. does anyone else do anything like this? if so what are did you get?
