...Yeah. I was going to suggest Jcrew, but it is expensive. My mom said Sears or JcPenny has good suiting. Kohls is good, but I think that's only in the midwest. If you have the time, you can go to TJMAXX and search, but that can be a headache.
The men's suits at Kohl's are good, not sure about the women's though. They are nationwide, not just the midwest.
I wish our Kohls has suits! They have tons of mens suits but not a single suit for women.
Thanks for the suggestions!
I got mine at Macy's. I've seen cute stuff at Express as well. I know some women swear by their "editor" pants.
Express suits are ok, can usually get them fairly cheap, but really a suit is an investment. I got my first suit from there and it served it's purpose, and got me my first job (well partially!). Now the one I wear mostly is from Ann Taylor. Still wear the pants from the old Express suit though. The editor pants are great!
Boston Store sometimes has nice suits for women which won't make you look uber old, but they do tend towards oddly colored suits sometimes (like aqua or fusia!). I don't know what size you are, but Lane Bryant (size 14+), while expensive, has some really nice suit seperates in store the other day. i almost bought my interview suit there! Have you tried Target or Old Navy online?
Macy's sometimes has some good sales on suits - but they can be hit or miss depending on the store.
I didn't know express carried any suiting... I'll have to check that out. Unfortunately our Target and Old Navy don't have anything right now. Banana Republic had some stuff but nothing that seemed worth it to me, same with Macys. I know a good suit is really an investment but as a college student right now, I don't have much to invest! Thanks for all the help though, I'll have to try again early this week.
I don't know if you have T J Max or Marshalls, but you can sometimes get high quality suits pretty inexpensively. Ross is another place to try.
Another thing is to look into tailoring it. Overall if the suit fits you really well, it will look great. An expensive suit that doesn't fit won't do much for you!
I wear suits for work, and my favorites are from Ann Taylor and Banana Republic. They look stylish and professional at the same time. I have had several of them for 5 years, and they are still in great shape! They can be expensive upfront, but the quality will make them last. Agree with the suggestion of tailoring as well. Having a suit that really fits you well is important for interviewing.
I love Ann Taylor Loft for suits! Also, I make a twice-yearly trek to the Ann Taylor outlet and go crazy! I once got a suit there for under $65 (pants and jacket, the skirt was an extra $20). The women in my office have good luck at Banana Republic, but I think those suits are better for taller girls unless you want to invest in some tailoring as well.
I've had great luck with J.Crew suits. It's not cheap, but they fit me perfectly and they last really well. I opened a J.Crew card to save the 20% off a full suit, which may be worth considering at least.
I've always worn Ann Taylor Loft. It's not terribly overpriced for a nice suit and they last a long time. They have a pretty wide array of colors (well, black, gray, tan, as you'd expect) and styles. Also lots of cute and professional blouses and shells for underneath!
I got a really nice suit from New York and Co. You should also try Marshalls and JcPenney's.
I got mine at Banana Republic. It was kinda spendy...but I've noticed that when business suits don't fit correctly, it just looks sloppy. So definitely worth the investment. Plus BR has petite so I don't have to do any alterations! :-)
I had a hard time finding a suit because I wanted a skirt with mine which is becoming increasingly less common! I got mine at Nordstrom but I've also seen a lot of cute suits at Ann Taylor. Banana Republic also has some great stuff and I appreciate that they have a petites section (so does Ann Taylor) which is great for shorter gals like myself.
Unfortunately I don't know that a decent quality suit for under a couple hundred is realistic. :(
I have to say Macy's, since I am the suit buyer. I would recommend the Nine West line, it's looks a lot like J.Crew or Theory but the average price is $140 for both pieces. I would love your feedback either way!
I have a few suits from J.Crew, Banana Republic and Ann Taylor. I was able to buy most on sale for less than $200.
I do recommend H&M for s decent price suit - that will run around $100 for both jacket and skirt. Zara also has some decent price suits. Both have good fits
i have an Express suit and a couple of their dress shirts. They fit me wonderfully without the need of tailoring and weren't too expensive.
H&M is a good idea! I actually went there this afternoon and they had a few really nice looking separates. Unfortunately they were all out of anything in my size.
I'm glad to hear so many people recommending Express though. I think I'm going to go over there tomorrow.
My first suit was Express, I think their dress clothes are higher quality than some of their other clothes.
I have found some really discounted BCBG jackets lately; both at the store and the outlet. I got a $300 jacket for $100! So try the outlets too.
I have lots of suits and they're all from JCPenny and Macys. surprisingly good suits at JCPenny. :)
I finally got one today! I went to the mall specifically to go to Express but when they didn't have a jacket in my size, I moved on to a few other stores. I had been in Limited before and I knew they had nice suits but that they were expensive. At this point I was so irritated from looking for a decent suit for over a week that I went in and with the help of a super nice sales lady walked out with a new suit! Between my student discount and opening a credit card with them I saved 30% too!
Thanks for all the help!!
i got mine at the ann taylor outlet store. i love it and get great compliments on it whenever i wear it!

Like a business/interview suit? If so, where did you buy it?! My mom got me an interview suit a few years ago from Kmart. It has served its purpose well but I have a big interview coming up and I'd really like to get a new one. I've looked in every single store I can think of and I can't find a suit that's modern and flattering without being a few hundred dollars.
Do you have any suggestions?
