Simple dilemma, I’ve fallen for a very modern, ivory satin strapless dress with bling. But our theme/style is vintage, birdcages, lace and pearls. I don’t want to change my theme but I also love the dress.
Is it a ‘rule’ that your dress has to match your style? Would you expect it to be all the same theme?

I basically themed my wedding after my dress, so yes, it was very important for me for my dress to flow with the rest of the wedding, but there is no set rule. i would look around a little more to see if you can’t find on that might work with you theme a bit better, but if you can’t and you are okay with it then get it.

ZebraPrintMe: I’m having a similar theme but without the birdcages. I always wanted a lace dress because lace is very ‘me’ so I knew it would tie in with my theme anyway. But when I was trying dresses on, some were definitely more fitting to my theme than others but all I cared about was how I felt in the dress, not whether it would look right in our barn conversion wedding. I rhink you should go with whatever dress you love. You’re not part of the decor and I think you should feel at your most special

linnylou_88: I suppose I could just change things up a little, take out the lace part at the venue (we haven’t bought anything lace) so then the satin wouldn’t stand out so much against it… do you think that might help merge it together a little?

ZebraPrintMe: I think that would be a good idea. You can definitely incorporate satin into your theme. I love these for example:

Satin and lace can work very well together if you like a big dramatic elegant effect. My dress is satin and lace. My girls also have satin and lace dresses. We are using satin, lace, and damask in our wedding.

I would say break the ‘rule.’ If you love the dress then that’s all that matters! I doubt any of your guests will be thinking “her satin wedding dress doesn’t match her theme that has lace…”

I don’t think it is important for it to match the theme of your wedding… That being said I’m wearing a huge tulle ball gown and i’m planning my wedding to be quite fancy. I don’t know how im doing my invitations but I’ll probably mention dress on them if that is something that is even done… Anyways you will know what goes and what doesn’t. Just because your dress isn’t lace that doesn’t mean you can’t have lace different places. Honestly having a lace dress and lace everywhere else might be too much.
The most important is to love your dress and feel your best in it.
