Kmart used to carry the Martha Steward brand and she had some really good quality trees. My parents have both of their faux trees from Kmart - the first one lasted 25 years and they are still on their 2nd one (5+ years).
If you are going for pre-lit, make sure that if one bulb burns out, that the whole tree doesn't go out - that would be a pain!
I would actually recommend a tree with no lights - then you don't have to worry about replacing fuses or bulbs.. just buy new lights when you need to!
One of my favorite prelit options is the ones that have fibreoptics in them. They are much easier to out up than the ones with strung lights... Last year we had a pre strung one and the bar I was working at and It took me FOREVER to get up becuase you have to make sure everyting matches up correctly so that each layer plugs into the previous.... basically it was a pain in the butt.
Moral...if you get a prelit, try fiberoptics..or something easy to put up and take down...

Just because I am that type ... I am researching now to find out all I need to know before I jump into a purchase! My mom and I were out looking at trees and so far I liked the looks of one at English Gardens - not sure exactly which it was ... but it was like this one.

I want to start out with a fake one that is prelit. What do you think of them? How many lights should it have? Is this one good quality? How do I know? What kind of ...tree do I look for?
Plus, I don't have tons of room! So I want a rather tall and skinny one. Not full!
Thank you for any advice!
