I found out by accident/him telling me. My fiance is a funny one – he always likes to point out the aspects of everything he buys and justify it all, so when he gave me the ring, he also showed me the certificate from the jewellers saying what it was, carats, etc. and down the bottom was the price. He was horrified at first that I found out, because he knew it was way more than I would want to spend on a ring. Silly bugger didn’t realise that the cost was on the certificate (he’d only just gotten home with it).

I knew how much it cost, I picked it 🙂 I feel bad he spent so much to get my dream ring (0.61 carats F colour VVS1 clarity yellow gold Tiffany Setting – from Tiffany & Co, not replica) but he wanted to get me a ring I love 🙂 everytime I look down at it I smile thinking of how much we love each other and what he did to get me my dream ring 🙂

Yes I know because I picked.  I’m the frugal one in the relationship.  If I let him pick it he would have spent 6x the amount I did.

We’d combined finances for a couple years before we got engaged so we moved the agreed upon sum to his personal bank account some time before he purchased the ring so he could choose one at his leisure and still maintain some element of surprise about the timing of the proposal.  There was no “change” returned to the joint bank account so I assume it was within a couple hundred of the budget.

@Edelweiss:  We aren’t engaged to the same guy, are we? Wink Mine did exactly that!

Haha, I think it’s just because he agonised over what to buy for so long, he wanted to make sure I appreciated every single thought he’d had about it. Plus he then pulled out all his research on caring for a sapphire ring and how to go about getting it insured. Such a romantic!

I know because he gave me all of the receipt information for upkeep purposes. To maintain the insurance and the free this and that upkeep on it, we have to bring it in every six months. Two weeks in, I hit it on a door and bent a prong from the setting and needed to have it fixed. Thus the receipt.

We purchased the ring together with our combined finances so yes, I know exactly how much it cost. I also picked it out.

@NovaRising:  This for me too. Ours was custom, the first quote was £1000 more than what we paid. I wasn’t having that. Nope nope nope.

I know what FI originally budgeted.  And I know how much he spent.  I only know because it was in the paperwork with the appraisal.

I knew because I saw the appraisal and he got really excited to tell me how much more it appraised for over what he paid!

He bought online, so I know exactly how much it cost. Doesn’t bother me because I feel like we got a good deal for a gorgeous ring. If he had picked it out himself, I don’t think I would want to know how much it cost though. Don’t know why.

I know how much the stone cost, but don’t know about the setting.

All I know is that the setting cost over double what the stone did, but other than that – not a clue!

It doesn’t bother me in the slightest not knowing!
